Blog #17: New Gods Unchained reward structure and cosmetics

in Hive Gaming5 years ago

The new card set has not been released yet. Still, in the past few weeks there were some interesting changes and announcements. The one with the highest impact just got implemented last weekend.

New reward structure

So far, when playing during the weekend, you had to grind your way to a certain number of wins to receive good booster packs as a price. At the beginning, I went for 30 wins every weekend to get 3 Epic Core packs. However, this was super time consuming playing mostly control decks, and I did not want to spend my whole weekend grinding. Soon, I only played occasionally. Now, all you have to do is play 25 games during the weekend, and you get ranked according to your wins/losses ratio, see the table below.

This makes the game much more enjoyable imho. Now every game counts. Before, a lost game just meant that you had to spent more time playing, which was kind of annoying. Now, a win actually feels like a success. The only critique I have is, that there is still no in game win counter. I mean how hard can it be to put a counter in a game?

Forging still disabled, introducing Immutable X

Play-to-earn, one of the main aspects of Gods Unchained, usually works like this: In order to make a card tradable, the player has to forge two identical cards into one NFT representing the card. The cost of creating and distributing this NFT (Gas price) has been payed by Immutable so far. However, due to the high gas prices recently, they chose to disable forging. This means play (once again) does not work right now.
However, there is already a solution in sight: Immutable X has been announced. It is an NFT trading platform and allows for more than 200 million NFT transfers daily and zero gas fees. Read more about it here.

Optics matter

Another thing I did not mention yet: The graphics of the game have been improved significantly. It looks much more polished now. The loading screens as well as the in game background are really beautiful and rich in detail now. Along with this improvement, some more trinkets were sent to the players. You can now choose and customize your board, which is a nice gimmick.

Conclusion: Some incentive to play again!

Even though there are now new cards yet, the game still improved a lot. I did not play for a while, mostly because I got interested in some Nintendo Switch games, but also because grinding got boring. However, with the new reward system, I will definitely play some more matches during the weekends again and might even build a new deck, because Death Control does not seem so good anymore!
