Please put that goalie on the transfer market ASAP.
Yes, he was free but if you keep him, his 160k/season salary will bury you. The good news is you do not have to pay him until your league starts so you have a good shot at turning him in some free cash. For playing, you are better off spending low five digits on reasonable-salary players (you are going to need 10-11 of those for your starting squad).

To clarify this:

spending low five digits on reasonable-salary players

Does this mean on a season-long basis?

For example, low five digits is less than 50K per season divided by 30 => less than 1,667 per match?
