Denying my fanaticism for the saga is not an option. Since the first day I experienced playing as Jill Valentine and failed to get out of her apartment, and then because of my ineptitude, my best friend chose to lend me Resident Evil 2 and from there I became an encyclopedia of the original version.
Seeking to somehow play all the games, despite not having the consoles. I was bittersweet playing Resident Evil 7, and don't get me wrong; I'll give you my points for that reason, so you can understand me better.
When it was the presentation -very ambitious- I thought of a renewal, that it was going to have something amazing. There were beautiful graphics, promising cinematics.
And the day came to play...
Resident Evil 7 is a great game, but not enough to be called that. It fell into the type of games like its rivals Outlast and Fear 4, they changed everything to first person.
But strange things were coming, for example, body parts mutilated and reinserted so naturally that modern surgery would need that technology. Many current defenders would tell me that it's a game, not everything has to be realistic, but among all the fiction that already handled, the saga intended not to bring such improbable issues -of the already strange mutation by each of its viruses- among some situations.
His character had no personality at all, he had a clunky introduction and unlike previous protagonists, he had no charisma.
But still, I saw the game, with an outbreak that is not similar to previous sagas, a form of fungus. A bio weapon girl who is not perfect who goes crazy and controls a poor family.
An attempted display of "pure love" from a guy who knows nothing about a wife, where one could claim abandonment of home -at least legally in Mexico- and receives news from her.
Then we end with a Chris Redfield part of the reformed and new Blue Umbrella, to advocate nostalgia and try to reassure the purists. And some DLC attempts to raise the hype.
And while it got good reviews, the reality is that it was no longer a main installment, perhaps a spin off.
¿Siempre fueron as
When the announcement of the new game came, all of us red-boned fans did not go in with high expectations. Sometimes it's sad to say that it's better not to expect anything, but in these cases, that's how it felt after the past experience.
But my feeling is not the same, apart from continuing to greatly improve the quality as part of the new generation of consoles, I saw elements that managed to hit the nostalgia of the past sagas.
And what was better for me: the possibility of Chris Redfield being a villain.
There could be many factors for what was seen, but I will never forget that older Chris shooting a defenseless person on the ground.
Let's remember that Chris is a character that has been breaking as the saga progresses, from being a person with difficult beginnings now he looked more human, until Resident Evil 6, where he broke completely, already affected by losing a recruit, with memory problems and alcoholism where he finally loses another team and the one he considered a successor.
Already in the previous saga, we observed a Chris full of pain for the loss of a partner whom he refused to let go. Adding that he disobeyed orders as he did before to go in search of the truth, of his old rival in a kind of hunt.
Now in what little we know of the game, we see an Ethan who talks more, who questions more, who is determined to get his daughter back no matter what in that crazy village, with werewolves, vampires and more. We see a bit of the missing Chris in Ethan's impulses to save those he meets along the way.
In your humble servant's opinion, I think going off the classic hero and giving that dark twist to Chris could be a frankly wise move -if they do it right-, I love unexpected plot twists and this is one.
The whole village smells like Resident Evil 4, despite the snow, and the castle looks even more impressive than the one we visited as Leon. Now it's not just a cult called The Illuminati with an English-born guide of dubious guidance, now we're talking about the mysterious Mother Miranda and the castle's family of nobles.
How did the Dimitrescu's get their abilities, were they always like this?
Did Umbrella do that to them?
Is Mother Miranda related to the founders of Umbrella like the famous Veronica?
There are only a few days left to find out. I would love to know your opinions and if you buy the game, let me know all the spoilers.
