Once Human | The Broken Delta Region

The Broken Delta Region.jpg

I’d end up running into some strange things in the next region. All of them are rather cool. While I would end up not spending a lot of time in The Broken Delta region. It sure left an impression on me.

Not knowing what kind of difficulty I'd be facing in the next region. Along with if I'd be doing something with my base. I went on a massive copper gathering spree. This ended up going quite a long way towards what I'd end up discovering next. It also seems even if I went out and farmed 5k copper it would never be enough.

weapon calibration.jpg

At one point I discovered you could calibrate your weapons and armor to increase things like damage or protection. This however cost resources like copper at first. Later-tier weapons would end up requiring higher-tier ores along with even more exotic resources.

I also made a lot of ammo. I hated the idea of running out. While it would just be copper ammo it turns out that is good enough for most things. At one point I had like 20k rounds. To reduce my carrying weight I had a bunch of it stored in my base. Even that only lasted me so long.

heading into broken delta.jpg

It was now time to head into the Broken Delta region and see what kind of trouble I could get up in there. I’d end up not spending as much time there as I did in Dayton Wetland. It was still quite a fun area.

I even left behind a few quests to come back to at a later point in time. Sometimes you just end up getting wrapped up in wanting to progress a bit instead of taking things slow and enjoying things that way.

I had no idea at the time what the full effect was going to be once the season moved from phase one into phase two. I just wanted to make sure I was not falling behind.

Once I made it into the new region I did not exactly go right for the main quest unlocking the next safe town. I decided to see how hard this area would end up being. There were some familiar creatures here and some like the one above that I'd make sure to take out the moment I spotted them.

It also seemed like creatures were slowly as I progressed through the game becoming more twisted. Things were starting to act more ferial-like. More creatures' heads would end up morphing into some rather strange objects or even shapes. Things were starting to just get stranger yet amazing at the same time.

the scorcher.jpg

I have to say it’s the elite creatures that the game puts a lot of detail and attention into. I was fighting this The Scorcher and then he sent a few adds at me. Then I shot him a few more times and his head popped off, grew legs, and started charging at me.

I ended up ducking behind the building just so I could finish off his now detached head first. I then went in and finished the job. It was quite a fun and strange fight all wrapped into one. I was quite excited to find yet another as strange an encounter as this one.

It was at this point I stopped mostly using the pistol gun. While I had been using the gun almost exclusively up to this point. That gun I looted off the boss ended up being my main gun to use. I however kept the pistil around for moments when I ran out of ammo for my other gun.

looking for loot crates.jpg

By this point, the content loop for this game had more than set in. I was also just enjoying it. While all the towns were widely different with some repeat buildings. It was just fun running into a building and scanning to see a few possible crates to loot nearby. Hoping one of them would end up being the mystical or weapon crate I was looking for.

After a while, I made it to the next safe town location. In there, I was told of some rather strange things going on in the region of people getting turned into trees. I know that just sounds crazy. It was however their issue and they had some thoughts about the situation. I would however need to investigate things further myself.

tin ore mining in Broken Delta region.jpg

The Broken Delta region also gave me access to tin ore. I needed this to craft all kinds of new things I wanted back at my base. I ended up spending quite a long while mining as much ore as I could carry back with me.

At one point I was exploring around and I thought I found a massive elite to kill. It was however covered in fog. As I got closer, I realized this was not your normal type of encounter. I was able to remove the fog to discover it was just a tiny little creature that I could capture.

I also ended up along the way getting some Digby deviations. As it turns out some deviants can do more than just assist in combat. This one would go out and do some mining for me. I would also end up finding my first iron ore for me. It sadly was not enough iron to be of any help.

fighting rosetta.jpg

This region also ended up being quite a heavy encounter of Rosette's personnel. While they would appear blue and friendly from a distance. Once they spotted me, they would turn red and attempt to take me out.

It seems the Rosetta people have quite a bone to pick with my kind. I’ve heard about how “good” Rosetta was on the radio as I drove around on my motorcycle. It however became clear right then and there that all the good they kept claiming to be doing was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

I would even make it a point to take out as many of them as I could find. Sometimes staying in towns long after I'd found all the loot crates, I needed to move to another location. These kinds of people just anger me to no end!

Balloon elite.jpg

The further I went into this region the stranger it would just keep getting. I ended up going into a place called High Banks and it seems they were having some kind of town party.

There was also a giant party crasher elite there. Its head was made out of balloons that you could pop with bullets. This would not be the last time I'd encounter balloon creatures I'd have to fight off. It still rather cracks me up just looking back at moments like these.

That was not the only strange thing going down in High Banks. I went to loot a water vending machine. Instead of getting loot, the thing started talking with me. It started demanding that all used water bottles be returned to it.

It seemed to view all the water bottles as if they were kids or something. Perhaps it was just really into recycling. All I knew was it demanded I go out and find 100 empty water bottles and return them. Thankfully it settled for me only returning three.

cradle override system.jpg

Once in a while, I had to stop all the killing and see what kind of new features I'd unlocked. Stuff like Eternaland I'd hold off on checking out till far later. Then there was stuff like the cradle override system that it was clear would be worth my time to look into sooner rather than later.

The cradle itself is that backpack I'm always running around with. It holds a single deviation that I take with me to use in combat situations. It also turns out you can finetune it a bit.

As you go out and completely different objects further slots unlock in the override system. I then could equip small boosts to damage, heal, or do certain kinds of actions like getting a kill.

It’s quite a neat little system. Anytime I took out a major boss that ended up unlocking another slot on the backpack. I was thrilled with slotting in another small but nice to have a boost.

taking out doppelganger.jpg

This region also started introducing me to dungeons a bit more than the first. I ended up finding myself fighting this massive doppelganger boss in its little instance. Encounters like these helped break up the normal gameplay that I was accustomed to doing at this point when I went exploring around.

This also served as a friendly reminder to myself to have loads of ammo on me at all times. You never know when your adventure might turn and end up in a situation like having to take down a high-health boss.

For the most part, I was just going around to a dozen or so locations on the map. Picking up the few teleportation or anchor points.

T-man.jpg

Then out of nowhere yet again, I'd run into something just a bit strange but welcoming. Like this T-Man who sees himself as a sheriff who offers and pays out bounties on others' behalf while getting “justice” delivered for the victims.

This ended up being another dungeon I'd go into to defeat someone. I got quite a strange feeling after my encounter with him. There just seems to be something diabolical about him. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is for now. It would not be my last time running into him either.

treant monolith fight.jpg

Like all good things, it was time for this region to come to an end shortly. While I'd end up leaving a few side quests and other activities to do another time. It was time to clear towards another monolith fight and see if I had enough firepower to take it down.

The cutscene ended up showing this massive insane tree thing I'd have to be fighting. It was not as scary as the game made it out to be. I even found this fight a bit easier than the first monolith boss I had fought.

Once in a while during the different phases, I'd have to go around the map clearing out some stuff. For the most part, it was easy. Nothing stuck out in terms of loot either.

Final Thoughts

One of the reasons I ended up wanting to move on to the next region so quickly despite having few things left to do was for iron. I realized after unlocking a few things for my base that they all required iron or other stuff I had yet to be in a region to gather. I would be going on quite the base upgrading spree shortly enough.
