Revisiting what I used to play when I was 8 years old: Cave Story PC

Have you ever felt the need or curiosity to go back to a game you played many years ago?

Maybe some game you played in your childhood and that you enjoyed as never before as a child but now you are afraid that it has lost a bit of its essence and you don't have much fun

That's how I was a few hours ago when I decided to install Cave Story again. I'm sorry if there are kids here because I don't usually talk too much about very current or very fashionable games

But in my childhood years it was like not having any internet access so it was almost impossible to play any online game or even find out about the latest releases from the most prominent companies

I had only a few limited hours of internet access per week, and I was a boy very fond of video games since I can remember, I played with the first Nintendo that belonged to my dad as well as later I played the first PlayStation with my cousins

I had never had something for myself until I discovered certain pages that allowed you to download games for free to the old laptop that we connected once a week to a bad internet signal

The speed was terrible even at the best time of the night when there was no one using it, if I compare it to what I have now, it was garbage, but it was in one of those lightning moments of internet that I was able to download this magnificent game by pure chance

I don't know very well if I already knew about the existence of Cave Story in some way or if I downloaded it by pure chance so that it ended up being one of the games that accompanied me during all these moments without connectivity

And it doesn't surprise me that that old curious and smiling self of video games liked this adventure so much, it has that charm of the old Flash games for browsers that were so popular in their time

Nothing very complicated, not an elaborate story or controls too complicated for a child, just a good platform video game that although at this time I can't get something characteristic, I think that for its time it was very innovative

And I only found out this recently, Cave Story was one of the first independent video games that appeared on the scene and gained quite a bit of popularity thanks to the internet and word of mouth from those who played it religiously

There must have been some independent games but according to what I've read it was this one that hit the jackpot

It's a very interesting story because Cave Story is also a video game created by one person over several years and that saw the light of day little by little thanks to the suggestions of the players who played in the early stages and gave their advice to the creator. I think that this strategy has always been beneficial for the creators and above all for future players to discover a very enjoyable game that keeps them glued to the screen for a long time.

I think it's a good platformer and that's the best way to define it, fun even today, although it must also be said that time has perfected this formula and although I like what I see today of Cave Story, I haven't been able to endure more than an hour playing it, perhaps it's because of my age and because I'm too old to relive my younger self.
