"For quite some time it has been difficult to point out which was the first video game, mainly due to the multiple definitions of this that have been established, but Nought and crosses, triki in my country Venezuela or also called OXO, developed by Alexander S.Douglas in 1952. The game was a computerized version of tic tac toe that ran on top of EDSAC and pitted a human player against a machine."

"It was written in the Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator (EDSAC). EDSAC was one of the first stored-program computers, with memory that could be read or written, and had three small cathode-ray tube displays to show memory status; Douglas redesigned a screen to demonstrate how other information was displayed to the user, such as the status of a game of noughts and tails. After the game served its purpose, it was scrapped on the original hardware, but was later successfully rebuilt."

"Each game was played by a user against an artificially intelligent opponent, who could play a "perfect" game. The player entered his input using a rotary telephone controller, selecting which of the nine squares on the board he wished to move next."

FUN FACT: OXO was not available to the general public and could only be played at the Cambridge University Mathematical Laboratory with special permission.

In essence, the culture of video games is full of great stories and scientific achievements developed by those precursors who saw the opportunity to be able to work while having fun at the same time, what would they think of our lifestyle today? and the great world that was created from that technological development. I read them in the comments and until next time with more history of video games.
