Welcome to Another Review
Predator hunting grounds is an online multiplayer game developed by IllFonic. The game is available for PS4 and Microsoft's Windows. The game sees you assume control of the predator or one member of a four-person fire team as you do battle with each other in maps featuring hostile NPCs.
You start by selecting whether to play as the predator or a member of a fire team, and the first thing I say is matchmaking is considerably quicker for the fire team. As everyone clearly wants to be the predator. I played with both and I was pretty surprised with the predator gameplay in you'd think it would be more enjoyable, instead of playing as the predator is a real struggle and you spend more time jumping around trees trying to find the fire team than actually getting into skirmishes.
So, for action fans, I'd recommend using the fire team maybe for campers the predator would be a better choice. The fire team provided some pretty good fun sessions with simple and clear objectives to complete and a good emphasis on team play. The rounds take place in a variety of maps from caves to jungles and other varieties.
Now there are also AI soldiers spread throughout the maps which mix up the action but the AI is truly laughable the enemies are wooden have no situational awareness and just stand still and shoot at you until you die or they do. The more you play the more experience you earn that will help you level up your gear not just cosmetically but in terms of the effectiveness of your weapons. You can module guns and tweak each weapon to your own specification and you can also listen to dutch tapes where you can get to hear some nice backstory from Arnie's old character from the original movie.
So, predator hunting grounds it's not an amazing online shooter but it's quite good fun when played in the fire team but pretty disappointing when played as the predator. Graphically, the game is functional it looks okay but it's nothing that's really going to blow anybody away saying that the predator model looks good although you'll hardly ever see it due to the sporadic nature of the skirmishes between fire teams and predator players.
Sound wise the gun effects are fine I mean overall I'd say the sound is pretty strong. The music brings back the famous theme albeit slightly reworked but the mission voice-over is pretty bad and sounds like someone who works at a laptop repair shop rather than someone in the military. The fire team missions are pretty good fun the character customization options are decent and the game has all the licensing to make it feel authentic. The predator gameplay is not great the mission voiceover is annoying the enemy AI is awful and it's a game that relies on its license rather than its gameplay for the appeal.
Final Thoughts
This game is a pretty average online shooter that has small moments of joy amidst a vast array of mediocrity. It feels like the developers went all out to buy the predator license but they had very little budget left for the actual game itself. Technically it does have issues, bugs, bit glitchy from time to time but despite its flaws I did enjoy it to a degree mainly in the fire teams. It's good fun for a week or two but fast gets repetitive and it's more of a work in progress than a finished article. I'd say if you're a predator fan you'll get some small enjoyment from it so scoring-wise I'd say the fire team gameplay is significantly more enjoyable than using the predator.
