I'm amazed and frustrated with how Nintendo is doing things regarding their retro library. They discarded the virtual console for the sake of a subscription service. While I find that idea interesting, there's no guarantee the games won't disappear one day.
The 3DS & WiiU eShop will cease selling new items next year. The Wii Shop has stopped that years ago. It doesn't look very good. Yet, from business/profit perspective, I understand all of these decisions.
I'm glad XBox is exploring ways to perserve the gaming history... And I'm happier about SONY including PS1, PS2 and PSP title in its upcoming subscription service!

Nintendo has been working on taking the throne away from EA as the worst company with their gamers, I understand the nostalgia factor and that they need to get an economic return on all this but there are ways to do things right and it certainly isn't charging a separate service for the virtual console + charging for the games as well. Even so I think that at some point in Japan will realize how abusive these moves are and reconsider because otherwise I hope that gamers will move. Thanks for the comment!
