Digimon Survive [Let's Play] - 07 - Finding the Professor

The group manages to find food supply that should sustain them for a while. After that they find the professor's hat lying somewhere, and they go look for him. They find the professor being targetted by a strong monster!

Digimon Survive is a Digimon Visual Novel with Turn-based strategy battles. The game follows a group of children who find themselves in another world, and their desperate attempts to find a way back home. The children find themselves involved with monsters, both as partners and enemies.

This is the darkest piece of Digimon media I ever consumed, and Cybersleuth had pretty dark stuff too. Digimon Survive fuses the concept of Digital Monsters with Japanese folklore. It's amazing how the idea of "child sacrifice" integrates seamlessly with Digimon lore. The specific Digimon they choose for this game enhance this theme.

Digimon Survive is the closest modern entry to the old school Digimon anime vibes. Though, more than the earlier Digimon anime series, the game reminds me more of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor series. In that series too, characters may die depending on your actions.

07 - Finding the Professor

In this session the team finds food supply in the storage room in the gym. Aoi calculates that it should sustain them for half a year. Ryo freaks out, saying they'll never be found. Starting with Minoru, they make sure the food is edible.

A while later, Haru finds something lying in the forest nearby. Takuma recognize it as the professor's hat, so they all go look for him.

The search takes them near the shrine, where they find monster trails. Inside, they find a bunch of Gazimon discussing the kids that their master wants them to capture. Under Gazimon, lied the professor unconscious...

The professor wakes up to a monster howl, and tells us that the howling monster in invisible. Thus, a battle starts where we have to keep the professor safe.

In the middle of the battle, Falcomon and Minoru protect each other. Falcomon evolves to Diatrimon. This is the first time I played as this Digimon in a video game.
