FOREIGN INFLUENCE ON NIGERIAN CULTURE AND TRADITION

in Vibes10 months ago

Nigeria was under the rule of the British government for so many years which means many British people lived and worked in Nigeria and are still living in Nigeria there are also other expertise living in Nigeria not only the British . They came from mostly Canada ,USA and France .
since they live and are still living with us we copied and are still copying a lot of their culture particularly our family life before they came our father's married more than one wife and found it easy to maintain them because the women were satisfied with whatever their husband provides for them . The women obey and respect their husband . Almost every woman was a housewife so they had time to take care of their homes.
Their coming changed our religion
Before they came,we worshipped God and also believe in Allah and tradition. Women covered their body properly and were submissive to their husband they have little parts to play in decision making in the family
parents chose husband for their daughters somebody they know that will take care of their daughters
mother go about their businesses with their babies tied on their backs women depend only on their husband when it comes to conjugal right because it is a taboo for a woman to sleep with another man
We produce different types of food we eat, there were rich farmers people have Farm lands and bans and many other things they enjoyed, but what is happening today all this way of life of the Nigerians have changed because of the presence of the foreigners and their influence on education and enlightenment
Their influence is too numerous to explain let me mention just few
Many men no longer marry two or more wife
Religion and method of worship changed to Western method as they call it
Mode of dressing changed ladies almost go naked today in the name of fashion
Some food we eat today are mostly tined and they cause a lot of damages to our bodies. Instead of depending on native foods people now prefer foreign food to our local food

Married women now claim equality with their husband. Sometimes, there are arguments between husbands and wives which leads to broken homes.
The women assert many right and position in decision making in their matrimonial homes because of foreign influence
Many women are now more educated than their husbands, gainfully employed and this makes it difficult for some women to be obedient to their husbands
Many daughters now choose husbands by themselves whether their parents like it or not.
Mother's now take their tender babies to day care center or leave them in the hands of nannies
Infact, there are a lot of negative changes in Nigeria as a result of the coming of the British.
My question now is Do u think that the impact of the influence of the foreigners is now better than the way Nigeria was before their coming?
