You are wrong

You say you're not perfect, but my love, you are wrong,
not because you don't have flaws,
but because your flaws make sense to me.

The way you leave coffee rings on the table,
how you forget to put the cap back on the toothpaste,
your habit of starting three different books
and finishing none of them.

These aren't mistakes to fix.
They're the small ways you exist in the world,
the proof that you're real and here
and mine to know.

Perfect would be boring anyway.
Perfect wouldn't snort when laughing too hard
or get excited about stupid things
or worry about everything and nothing.

Perfect wouldn't be you,
with your messy hair in the morning
and the way you hum off-key
while doing dishes.

So when you look in the mirror
and see all the things you think are wrong,
remember this: I see you completely,
the beautiful mess of who you are,

and I choose you anyway.
I choose you especially.
