Today I am sharing this Soto Mie as my Taco Tuesday theme here. Some people call this one as Soto Mie Bogor, because this food originally came from Bogor, one of a city in West Java.

Soto is Soup and Mie is Noodle, so if we translate the name directly into English, it become Noodle Soup and it is correct. Soto Mie is a spicy mix noodle soup. Although I have said above that many believe it comes from Bogor, this Soto Mie is commonly found in other countries too such as Malaysia and Singapore.

Soto mie can have Beef or chicken as their main meat, although some use pork too. However the most used one are offals, such as tendons and tripes because they are cheaper and have a lot of fat which can enrich the flavor of the soup. Basically Soto Mie is a street food and mostly sold on Food court or Food cart, that's why most sellers try to get it as cheap as possible.

Ok back to the noodle soup itself, although it is labeled as a soup, you can't not expect this soup to be packed with vegetables or to besome healthy food. Soto Mie is a pure comfort food, so forget about finding some some nutritious ingredients inside it.

The Journey and Bumping at Soto Mie Bogor Stall

Honestly I haven't had any thought about making a Soto Mie post or hunting to any famous Soto Mie brands nor Stalls. It's start on a day when I had to drive my car for more than 150 km for works.

It's 14:00 pm that day and although I did not feel hungry, I knew well I had to take a lunch or my health could go worse. So I stopped on this area, which seemed to have everything there, from a big convenience store and some food stalls.

They had some nice architectural decoration there, however I disliked this kind of stuff. It made people think this was a resort area or recreational place and that gave them all the right or perks to sell food higher... I was on duty that time, so that sounded bad for me... but I had to eat anyway.

Initially I wanted to eat this one, Ketupat Gulai Tunjang or Beef Tendon Stew with Rice Cake. However there was this dude in front, a grumpy one, complained about everything and I stood behind him in queue for 10 mins and he still could not stop blabbering and made any order... So FFFF it lah, I chose to move on another stall.

And there it was, A Soto Mie Bogor Stall there. I saw that stall was having some customer and could work fast serving them so I guessed that time maybe today that one should be my lunch.

Nothing fancy or interesting with their stall. There were two reasons why I came sight seeing their stall in detail. First I wanted to make sure that they could maintain their place clean and neat, and they did. Second, as a stingy person, I asked for price first before making any order... $3 or 3 USD, not cheap but I believed they were one of the cheapest there. Ok It's a Deal and I made the order.

MY SOTO MIE

Ok this was my order, a bowl of mix Soto Mie with a plate of white rice. Although it is a noodle soup, we south eastern Asian usually eat all soup with rice. There isn't any meals or dishes called as lunch if there isn't any rice in your meal. I will say some more about this later LoL.

All soup in Indonesia are served with some chili sauce. Some even serve multiple type of chili sauce to fit on customer taste. Everyone has different level of how spicy they like to have, so there will always be a chili sauce jar there.

Ok here we go with our Soto Mie or Noodle Soup here. Let me tell you what inside this bowl:

  1. A spicy oily soup, you can see the watery is glossy like mirror due to the oil.
  2. Some Tomato cuts, you can see the red one on top left. if you eat some asian food which are oily or full of fat, you need to eat this all in long term you will get sick of hypertension or other cardiovascular issue.
  3. I thought they gave me beef tendon, however I got some beef meat in tehre too.
  4. You can see some Rissole cuts there. It's like a fried spring rolls then it gets cut into pieces.
  5. Cabbage. on the left bottom. I was quite disappointed that they did not give me any bean sprouts there.
  6. Egg Noodle, the yellowish noodle. We call this one egg noodles.
7 Vermicelli, the white noodle. I believe everyone already know that Vermicelli is made from rice. We call this one as Bihun or rice noodles.

Ok back to South Eastern Asian eating pattern

It is common here for people eating Rice anad Noodles at the same time or mix them together like what I show you guys above. I have Rice, Vermicelli and Noodles, mix them together and eat them.

So I am poking @gwajnberg here because he asked me before about noodles from Indonesia... Well it is not only noodles, but it is how we eat those noodle, with rice. Some people here even love to eat spaghetti filled into a hotdog bun, because it makes a great calorie bomb and it always be a great feeling to have these calorie bombs

So are you ready to take these kind of calorie bomb? you can warm up and exercise your stomach by trying to eat noodles with rice LoL. of course this challenge won't work on people like @happyphoenix because I know he eats these bombs everyday.

Ok, That's all for my Taco Tuesdays post today. Thank you for reading my post and feel free to leave any comments below as you please.
