A Painting night - Pachamama

I really enjoy drawing and painting because I feel I can let go and relax my mind get lost in the strokes of my paint brush or pencil. Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy it and how good it feels to my soul. Luckily, I got invited by my friend to come to join a painting workshop at a coffeeshop in town. Then later on I saw a painting night event post on Facebook and decided to join it. The host and art teacher gave us all a blank canvas to work on and told me personally to just paint without thinking about technique or anything just to paint whatever I was feeling like pick the colors of paint that spoke to me and just relax and enjoy painting.

Without thinking what I was about to paint I just started picking the colors which I was going to paint with. Some white to mix, yellow, vibrant orange color, deep blue, dark green and some gold. Yes, gold… there was some gold paint which I love to use to get that shiny effect when the light hits your painting.
Without a clue what I was doing I started putting white paint all over my canvas and then I added some blue which mixed with the white was super nice to create a soft blue gradient which kind of looked like a sky. After I was content with my blue gradient background, I stopped for a moment… okey what now? I was thinking about well I have a sky should I try to draw a landscape? I usually don’t draw landscapes that often so I went with something more familiar. I drew an outline of shoulders, a neck and what looked like a beginning of a face. I pretty much used the outline as building block to create the rest of my painting.

In my mind the strong shoulders were not just shoulders but a mountain, covered with little flowers and greenery, the enormous sun emerges behind the mountains and serves as a pillow for the sleeping goddess whom lays peacefully and is fully indulged by mother nature. One flower is covering her mouth, or maybe she does not have a mouth. Mother nature speaks for itself…

At the end of the painting session, I was super happy with my painting. Al the doubt that I had in the beginning of the session vanished. The vibrant colors made me smile and the shiny gold on the sun made me smile even more. When I got home, I shared a picture of the painting with some friends. One of my friends whom is an artist himself really liked my painting and told me he could see me through the paining. I asked him, so what do you see when you look at this painting? This is what my friend replied: I’ve heard that yellow color symbolizes cheerfulness and hope. I can see that you are happily exploring. The painting resembles to a sunrise, which mean a new beginning and the face you’ve painted seems relaxed. The lady you’ve painted is embracing the leaves the flowers and the blue sky. It shows how much you love to be in nature and where your mind would find the most peace.

What do you see when you look at this painting?

I wish everyone a wonderful day, thank you for reading my post about this amazing painting experience. If you like to paint or draw or used to enjoy it as a kid, I encourage you to try it again. Just paint freely like a child does without any expectation or judgement.
