RE: Proposal: Hive Cross-Social Reference Discussions

in HiveDevs9 months ago

No, I mean, Hive algorithmically cannot get that Trending page to not be dominated by the favorites of the big whales because their posts are always voted way UP ... that's a major problem Hive is trying to solve, because it means new viewpoints are never seen and we can't retain new users who may have better content but get discouraged. Downvoting patterns on controversial topics are another issue ... but we are down below 140K users at best, and below 5K at worst ... so we actually have to solve the first problem to keep the chain alive.

Allowing the user to set their preferences for a custom feed fixes this. In statistics, the Mode is used to get a better picture of the data without including dominant outliers like the Mean does. I see no good reason why this type of customization is not available. Also, set a max weight you want to allow any account to have in prioritizing your feed. Or, you might not be in the mood for spaminator or hivewatchers or a list of other accounts to set your feed for you. My favorite would be what are the most down-voted posts! I'd probably look at that, go get an antacid and set it to the opposite, but that should be my choice! 😆

Actually, there IS someone working on a tool right now to fix all that ... for $100! Just so you know what the market will bear -- he has gotten ONE-THIRD of that, so far!

Great! I've commented about this for years. Seems to me that it can be done with HiveSQL queries that could be added into any of the front-ends. It might be missing for a reason. I'm not working on that for this app just yet, but I'd love to look at it when he's done. Can you post the link?

I looked at the proposals to see what daily pay to request. Looking at those that are funded, I get the impression that impact is more important than finding the least amount to spend from the DHF.

You are correct in terms of impact ... but if you look carefully, direct impact to Hive, working on a Hive-specific issue that needs solving is how people get access, generally. A problem on Twitter that Hive can solve is a bit more niche than usually gets funded at that level.

Friendlymoose and Ecoinstant are fundraising for the fix on curation, and you can find the details here: https://peakd.com/hive-186392/@friendlymoose/hive-needs-better-feeds-lets-build-a-custom-curation-tool-fundraiser
