Hear them sleigh bells ring jingling,

Five days until Christmas! Five days till December 25, but why December 25 for Christmas? The Bible doesn't mention any specific dates for the birth of Jesus, but December 25 th... Why?

Perhaps it was Sextus Julius Africanus the Roman leader who in AD 221, said that Jesus was conceived on March 25 which is nine months before December 25, or it could actually go deeper....

This is an interesting bit of History...

In the third century, the Roman Empire, which at the time had not adopted Christianity, celebrated the rebirth of the Unconquered Sun (Sol Invictus) on December 25th. This holiday not only marked the return of longer days after the winter solstice but also followed the popular Roman festival called the Saturnalia (during which people feasted and exchanged gifts). It was also the birthday of the Indo-European deity Mithra, a god of light and loyalty whose cult was at the time growing popular among Roman soldiers.

It is speculated that some earlier church officials, probably to present a alternate choice to the growing pagan celebrations that were abounding, was why in AD 336, The Roman church officially start celebrating the birth of Jesus on December 25, and consequently Christianity was set as the official religion of the Roman Empire then as well.

Even more so, it was not until about the 9th century until Christmas really took off. Crazy... well December 25, there you have it five days away, but what is less than one paragraph away is the weekly updates from D.Buzz. let's pour a glass of eggnog jump into it. :)
