Ruger 10/22

in Outdoors and more4 years ago

Bought a new toy for my upcoming appleseed training. Ruger 10/22 with an 'election' stock - which I may replace with something less flashy :-)

Haven't even had a chance to take it out to the range yet. Need to find out how exactly to adjust the sights first anyway. One things for sure: .22 ammo is a lot cheaper than the 5.56 for my AR-15!

Feels like a solid little rifle so far.

Congrats! These are great little shooters! I actually like the stock! Be sure to keep that one to put back on later or to put on other rifle if you start customizing.
I recently found a similar model for a great deal, with just the plain synthetic stock and then customized it up to be my dream gun.

Be sure to take the rail off, add loc-tite (blue) and torque it back down before you mount scope. I "assumed" mine was fine from the factory, only to find it was wobbling all over the place my second trip to the range!

Here's some ideas for upgrades, if you're looking.. I just love the Boyd's adjustable stock. https://peakd.com/hive-139358/@ksteem/journey-from-stock-ruger-10-22-to-custom

Looking forward to seeing some of those appleseed targets! Happen to have a downloadable target for practice? I searched around once, but didn't find one and gave up.

Wow, just read your post. That is a great build. It made me laugh that at the end of the build the only stock part was the action :-)

With my current (lack of) knowledge of the 10/22 platform I plan to buy a simple scope, do the appleseed training and then with my newfound knowledge start customizing. My current plan is for the Ruger to be my entry into rifle long range shooting. I belong to a great range where we can go up to 600yds and I'm excited to start taking advantage of that eventually - but I need to learn to walk before I can run :-)

Most folks consider 200-300 yards pushing the limits for accurate .22 rimfire shooting. But yes, great way to get started and to practice good technique even when you've moved up to larger calibers and longer ranges. My favorite mid-range (50-600 yards) caliber is the .22-250.
Look forward to seeing your targets and progression!
