Why saw blades don't belong on your knife spine:

  1. That spine should be square and strong for batoning or striking flint for fire, not all jaggedy and liable to make you bleed in a bad situation.

  2. Saws are thin for good reason. Knife blades are thick for good reason. Fat saw blades just don't saw well. It's why I don't even recommend a Gerber Gator machete.

I'd also add that a guard or hilt shape that keeps your fingies off the slicy bit is important!

My 2¢, anyhow. Get a good, basic knife that does good basic knife things well.

Indeed...Good points. I didn't want to make this post any longer than it was, I'm always on a time frame, and figured someone would either ask and I'd put it in the comments, or someone would fill in the blanks as you've done.
