I still use StrelokPro but it's blocked on the app store so no updates. It's annoying really, but with Russia being sanctioned as they are it is what it is. I used to use Applies Ballistics all the time and it was good but I think not as easy as StrelokPro which is why I switched. I think I'll have to go back to AB though.
As for the zero. You're right, I do zero at 200 for my long guns but this one is my basic culling platform so have done it at 100 metres because it's rarely shot at much over 350 and a lot of the time at 80-150. You can see from the most recent chart that even at 350m it's only slightly over 1 MRAD so easy enough to hold over rather than dial. Sometimes I need to be super quick as kangaroos can be skittish. Makes it easier (simpler) with a 100m zero at under 200m.
The 300WM and a couple others are zeroed at 200m for sure but they rarely shoot under 1000m.
I sold my 22-250 but man was that thing a laser! So flat and the energy imparted was immense for such a light calibre.
Gotcha, I do the same zero-ing for mine. Depends on the majority of intended use and distance. Just like a woman choosing shoes lol. Just wanted to see if you had other reasons to add to my process :). I zero my .338 at 100 vs. 200 for similar reasons. While it is better suited for the longer ranges, I never seem to see those nowadays, so just sight it in for 100 and shoot out to 500. Not sure if or when I'll ever get back to the 1,000 yard stuff, but wicked out to 500 :)
I really love sending rounds out to great distances, it's satisfying, but I just don't get out there as much as I used to a few years back. I used to be out every second weekend but I guess life gets in the way...and after 35 years of being dedicated to it it's ok to pull back slightly.
