Jeton, French spelling, can be thought of as a Token as in a cash substitute, like Poker or gaming chips that evolved out of private gaming tokens. Jetton is the English spelling. There are many private business Jetons that circulated in the European economy in the form of private business copper or brass strikes. Whereas official State Jetons are often in silver.
