Cobs were anything but perfectly round considering the huge quantities flowing from the western hemisphere as long as the cob had identifiable markings and the right weight. The mints couldn't keep up the quality control with the rate they could produce well hammered coins. It wasn't until the Mints got their hands on coining mills there was a substantial improvement in quality and consistency.
My Day 12 prized coin is an product of the new coining technology.
Besides, it gives the silver cob a certain old character.
