Today I'm posting from a different perspective as I have noticed a strange electromagnetic reading on a SMI (Sunshine Mint Inc) round in the stack.
On one side of the round, the reading is within range, but is one step away from being outside.
On the other side of the round, the reading is outside of range; however, is one step away from being inside.
Other tests performed:
Magnet Test: Pass!
Weight Test: Reading 31grams... Pass!
Dimension Measurements: Failure?
Diameter: 38.5mm (Should be 38.4mm average) - Pass!
Thickness: 3mm (Should be 3.3mm average) - Failure by 10%!

Bought it a couple of years ago. Saved a lot of money by avoiding in-store premiums with Kijiji deals. The machine paid for itself and then some.
Aside from fake metals, it is also risky to go out to meet strangers to purchase metals. I would recommend to still find deals and purchase from your LCS as they charge the premiums with safety and security.
Real handy piece of equipment to have.
Other than my repertoire of simple tests.
It is my experience that shipwrecked silver coins test higher in purity than their original purity because the copper is leeched out in reaction to prolonged exposure to seawater.

It's nice to have for sure. You still need to do other tests and measurements to be more accurate.
The Sigma Metalytics Pro device multiple of these tests in one shot, but the pro costs double of this machine lol

I have nearly all coins from trusted dealer, so I just trust. But it would be great while I would to get PM from unknown sellers...
Going to your trusted dealer is probably the safest way to go because you also avoid meeting with strangers with bad intentions.
I'm fortunate to have found some great deals that have saved me on premiums past the value of the verifier; however, my last interaction was quite sketchy.
The shops charge a premium not only to provide you with pure metals but also to ensure that you are transacting in a safe and secure space.

I think in this case, it would be the opposite unfortunately☹️.
It's a useful metals reader. Some of the other brands are expensive !
