I can't remember where I picked this one up, but I think it was from a dealer via mail order. It has some nicks, and some marks on it, but I still found it interesting enough to buy.
This coin was minted in 1892 especially for the World's Columbian Exposition. The Expo was in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It was in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus's arrival to the America's.
The marks around Columbus's eye make it look like someone dotted it for him in a fight.
The reverse is kind of cool design with what is supposed to be the ship Santa Maria above to two hemispheres that split the date 1492.
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out.

It's incredible how many coins of various countries commemorate Christopher Columbus, I lost count. I think I have the 1894 half, it was the Santa Maria that sold me on this coin.
Thanks for showing @coinjoe
Thank you for checking it out and commenting. Glad you enjoyed the Santa Maria.
That coin is becoming so scarce!!!
I haven't looked lately to see if I could find any online. I imagine the older commemoratives are getting harder to come across. Especially in the better than fine conditions.
Very nice , it's sterling ?
Thanks! 90% silver and 12.5g is all I know.
Nice , thanks for the info
👍
What an amazing piece to add to ones collection! I'm now getting convinced to start my own too. Will have to do some search and research :)
It is such a fun hobby, especially if you like history. And there is always the investment aspect of it too. I do it more for the hobby and history though.
Hobby and history, that is good. The fun and joy you derive when you get to see interesting coins like this and also learn about how it came about or so.
Yes, you get to learn about the designer, the subjects of the design and more. It is a great learning experience.
