in Hive Think Tank5 years ago
Authored by @jarvie

I was doing research for SteemPeak.com and looking at every survey people did in response to @midlet

I consider this mostly raw data that i found interesting... but putting it all in one place may be interesting to more people. And i'm using this alternate account because it doesn't fit the content of my main account @jarvie

IMPRESSIONS

  • Complex (Rootdraws)

  • Thankfully I had a very warm welcome due to a couple of people the person who on boarded me knew. (enjar)
  • obviously still more geared towards a more technically sophisticated group, rather than 'the masses', (mstafford)
  • Steemit frontend felt like it was missing a lot of features (Enforcer48)
  • when I signed up there was like a 2 month wait just to get an account. (Schmoogleosukami)
  • probably a scam. (gduran)
  • At first quite difficult, once you get the hang of it it is quite easy. (gduran)
  • It was the most advanced anything I saw on a blockchain, accessible to the regular person. (gadrian)
  • in awe seeing you can post and earn crypto (pouchon)
  • I "landed first" on the trending page and got myself the bitter and fake taste of what Steemit would be instead of actually could be or should be. (acesontop)
  • Easy Money. (belemo)
  • you aren't going to succeed without putting in effort onto your writing like a lot of people say you will. (rishi556)
  • It wasn't as straight forward as i thought it would be (nonsowrites)
  • creating good content wasn't enough. To thrive on steem then you need to actively engage with people and build a network for yourself. (nonsowrites)
  • There is just so much to do and learn. (nonsowrites)
  • Way too user unfriendly to go mainstream (cflclosers)
  • lacking marketing and ease of onboarding (cflclosers)
  • learning curve is steep for new members (cflclosers)

  • Holy crap there is a lot of spam. (themarkymark)

POSITIVES OF INTEREST

  • Money for posting (Rootdraws)
  • Low censorship (Rootdraws)
  • Great people and the community. (emre)
  • one thing about Steem that's nice and simple is the usernames (Enforcer48)
  • rewarded for creating decent content and being able to curate content and have an impact (Schmoogleosukami)
  • no single point of failure, no censorship (gadrian)
  • How easy it is to develop for it. It's fun too. (rishi556)
  • development possibilities with custom_json. (rishi556)
  • I still think steem is my ticket to financial freedom. (nonsowrites)
  • store arbitrary information forever. (emmanuel.singer)
  • FAVORITE thing is probably the game of earning Steem. (midlet)

NEGATIVES / WORRIES

  • Value of steem (Rootdraws)
  • Tribalism (Rootdraws)
  • whales who downvoted people into oblivion (Rootdraws)
  • It's hard to feel great when users leave and prices decline. (emre)
  • Toxic people and the community. :) (emre)
  • Hardforks (jadams2k18)
  • Learning markdown is not easy for everyone. (jadams2k18)
  • understanding how steem blockchain works and how payments, curations and pools work is rocket science to me. (jadams2k18)
  • problem is often that they think they will become millionaires overnight and then they leave (jadams2k18)
  • Times are slow and lonely. (enjar)
  • my friends from the early years are long gone (enjar)
  • I fear many content creators of today will become yet another dead blog once they hit the wall and are unable to recover while trying to maintain such a heavy content creation cycle. (Because of 7 day cycle) (enjar)
  • unhealthy obsession with seducing 'investors' into the ecosystem, and there's far too much prominence placed on it. (mstafford)
  • If Steem cannot pick up the pace as we enter another bull cycle, it will die. (Enforcer48)
  • Steemians most likely spend time on Discord than the actual chain itself. (Enforcer48)
  • It's way too complex. Crypto is already not user friendly in general. Then, Steem adds another extra layer with the designs, DPoS, etc. (Enforcer48)
  • people who feel like the government is spying too much aren't going to etch stuff on a blockchain. (Enforcer48)
  • decisions here are made by a handful of people. (gduran)
  • The infighting and the current down-vote wars over opinions (mytechtrail)
  • I do not think the user experience is ready for the average user. (mytechtrail)

  • lack of coordination of efforts (midlet)

IDEAS/WANTS

  • more cross collaboration between blockchain projects (blockchains) (Rootdraws)
  • Crowdfund creative projects. (Rootdraws)
  • Integrate ethereum DAO (Rootdraws)
  • NFTs (Rootdraws)
  • Decentralized custom tokens (emre)
  • Contests (jadams2k18)
  • lot of potential in the Escrow functionality (mstafford)
  • place for an "Etsy" style shop where makers can sell objects, buyers can buy, and a third-party arbiter (part of the Escrow transfer) could earn a small fee (mstafford)
  • Casual downvotes (gadrian)
  • Post directly from Instagram (cflclosers)
  • Lack of focus on UX. In the modern age of applications you CANNOT compete without a strong and positive user experience. The impressive tech won't matter if nobody wants to use it. (midlet)

STEEMPEAK MENTIONS

  • Steempeak because it has the best text editor. (belemo)
  • SteemPeak, it is the easiest I have found to use and makes browsing posts quite effortless. (mychemtrail)
  • I use SteemPeak a lot. I started by using Steemit, like most people. Then I migrated to Busy, then to SteemPeak after I saw they stopped major updates to Busy. Occasionally I still use Steemit or its clones for tribes, but mainly I prefer SteemPeak, because I have the all-in-one-place feeling there. (Gadrian)
  • I really love the user experience Steempeak provides. Instead of needing to go out to a bunch of different websites to do this or that they have done an amazing job at integrating a lot of quality of life ( pin feature, dark mode, 10 tags, showing voting mana, witness and proposal window, tribe feeds.) (enjar)
  • I also know if I send a user to that front end (steempeak) they are not going get bombarded with a bunch of cryptocurrency ads. While I do talk about blockchain games from time to time people into cryptocurrency are not my main demographic and they can sometimes be scared away rather easy from whatever nonsense they have read about the topic. (enjar)
  • SteemPeak is my main go to these days. (enforcer48)
  • the others (Steempeak, Steemworld, and GinaBot), I use them because they offer me more information about posts, comments, transactions, gossip, etc... (jadams)
  • Steempeak is my favorite UI though. (themarkymark)
  • In general I'd have to say Steempeak although lately I've been obsessed with the beta.steemit.com site getting acquainted with Communities. (midlet)
  • I like Steempeak simply because it has the best user experience. It's the best to actually browse content, to curate, and has the best wallet. (midlet)
