Hi, yes I'm totally new here and I have no idea how anything works yet. I don't even know how to add a profile picture. The cabin is in the South of France. To waterproof the walls, the most important thing is not to let them get wet. So you make the roof hang over enough to keep the rain off. The chinking between the logs is a mixture of lime, cement and sand, which keeps the creatures and cold winds out. It's a lot of work maintaining a log cabin though because the logs are always expanding and contracting with the weather.
