This article is intended for Warsaken discord community.
As there have been some confusion about how the Winner and Loser Brackets work inthe First Unofficial Warsaken tournament, so I decided to write an article about how it works, and why it's so complex.
How the tournament works is as follows:
First round players participate in elimination format tournament, meaning those that lost on round 1, get eliminated from the tournament.
From round 2 onward, if you lose in Winner's Bracket, you get demoted to Losers bracket, if you lose there, you get eliminated from the tournament.
This mans people that get past round 1 have to lose twice to be removed from the tournament, with the exception of Winners bracket winner, they can't lose even once, as if they lose on the final, which is Losers bracket winner vs Winners Bracket winner, they get eliminated immediately and get placed second in the tournament.
All Tournament Participants also have an option to "veto" one of the leader pair draws we use to randomize the pair the players will be using for a match. Using this option removes that leader pair ( one out of 4) from that match and can't be picked as selection for that particular match up.
If they use the veto, they no longer can do so for the reminder of the entire tournament.
This is the current state of Winners bracket during writing of this article 19th March 2022. The small red dot's indicate players who have used their Veto for leader pair.
As you can see from the above image, the Back3rs vs Brandon Warsaken match started on round 2 of the tournament.
You might ask why, since this tournament clearly has even pair of matches and could have started with 8 matches on round one instead of 7 for a easy and clean ladder.
This happened because this ladder was build for uneven amount of players and almost all match times were set before we could verify last participants of the tournament.
At this point it was much easier and more convenient for all players, simply use the model where on pair gets seeded to round two instead of re-doing entire ladder.
This does create some problems from loser's bracket however, this is the current loser's bracket:
To Simplify this bracket, I'll explain it as follows:
The earlier you lost in winners bracket, the more games you have to win to get a chance to win the tournament.
Matches to the left are losers of round 2 of the winners bracket, they play each other in until only one player is left.
That one player faces the person who lost the follow up game to the Seeded match ( Back3rs vs Brandon) in a Round 2.5 of sorts. (In time of writing, the player who lost and fell to losers bracket to thsi spot Is Brandon Warsaken)
The two people who will lose round three matches, face against each other, the winner of that match will play against who ever wins the match up mentioned earlier.
Winner of that match, will face the person who loses in Winner's bracket round 4, or winners bracket finals.
The person who faces the champion of winners bracket, will be decided by the person who wins this match and will go to the grand finals. Losers of this match, will place third in the tournament, losers of finals will be placed second and winner naturally first. Fourth place will be the person who lost the match before loser's bracket finals.
I hope this explained bit about the thought process ( and chaos) going behind the tournament brackets.
