Could easily be part of the show, though. The more details like this added, the more believable the official story will seem. Still, if the guy had all the time he wanted to prepare and was allowed to actually shoot 5 times, there's no way he wouldn't have done more than nick Trump's ear, if such a thing is even possible with such a big gun...
