Hive offers multiple frontends for its social apps and users to interact with. This gives the users the freedom to choose their favorite one. Some of them filter out the content and focus just on a specific content.
Hive is showing how constrained we are on traditional web2 apps like X/Twitter. I use multiple frontends on Hive for different purposes and really like the freedom to shift between them and select what I want.
Let’s take a look of the posting on the top hive frontends and their individual share.
We all know blogging dApps are not the only ones built on Hive. Games are taking advantage of the Hive blockchain and we are already seeing more of them built each day. Splinterlands opened the gate for games on Hive, and now we have many more.
Here we will only be looking only into the blogging apps:
- Peakd
- Ecency
- Hive.Blog
- Inleo
- Liketu
- Actifit
- dBuzz
- 3Speak
- Others
The period that will be analyzed is from April 2020 till now.
We will be looking at both, posts and comments activities.
We will also rank the top frontends by number of in the last 30 days.
Peakd
According to the data the most used Hive frontend.
Here is the chart.
Note that the chart includes both, posts and comments per day.
An uptrend for Peakd up until May 2022 when there was 10k posts and comments per day, then a drop in the summer 2022, and pretty much constant sideways activities since then with a slow decline. We can say that after the initial drop back in 2022, the activities on Peakd have held well in the bear market.
In the last period the number of posts and comments per day is in the range of 6k to 7k posts per day.
Ecency
Ecency has been around for a long time as well. They have a very good frontend as well. Some say it is the fastest ones. One of the best mobile apps included.
A strong growth after the initial transition to Hive back in the summer of 2020. A peak at the end of 2022, and a sideways action afterwards. In 2023 there is like U shape, when after August the numbers started going up. In the last period the numbers of posts and comments on Ecency is in the range of 6k to 7k per day. Out of these around 600 are posts.
Hive.Blog
The generic Hive frontend. It’s open source as well. Here is the chart.
While Peakd and Ecency have seen growth up until 2022, and a small drop afterwards, the Hive.Blog frontend has been in a downtrend overall with some stabilization in the last period. Obviously users are transitioning to the other frontedns and are not using hive.blog as much. It still has a decent number for posts and comments with around 2k per day holding steady. We can also say it is a good thing that we have left the initial generic frontend and developed more advanced alternatives, as a sign of decentralization.
InLeo/LeoFinance
LeoFinance has been experimenting with new things like the short form threads. Here is the chart for the posts and comments.
Some big spikes here from time to time.
In the past the activity on the Leo frontend has reached a high of 2k per month, back in May 2021. Then a drop to around 1k, stayed there for a while and started growing again at the end of 2022. Note that at this point Leo started to introduce the shortform interface. The activity exploded in April 2023, when it reached more than 10k threads per day. Since then, it has stabilized around the 3k daily, but the volatility remains high.
Liketu
Liketu is a photo sharing platform build on Hive. Here is the chart.
There has been a massive spike in activities just recently on Liketu. After a long period of a steady numbers for posts and comments at the end May 2023 has spiked up to 700 on one day. Since then they have stabilize around 300 daily.
Actifit
Actifit is one of the first Hive apps. It is a fitness app where users share their step counts per day. A move2earn.
Here is the chart.
Quite a steady number of posts and comments from Actifit with numbers in the range of 400 to 500 per day.
3Speak
The number of posts/videos from the Hive video platform.
Some ups and downs for 3Speak as well. The ATH was reached back in January 2022, when there were around 300 videos uploaded daily. Then a drop in the following period. A slight recovery in the begging of 2024 with the number of videos going from 150 to 200 per day.
Number of Posts and Comments from the Top Hive Frontends
Here is the chart for all the Hive frontends posts per day combined.
Peakd and Ecency are now on the top when it comes to posting and commenting. Ecency is even gaining a bit more momentum but for now thigs are around the same level between these two.
At first Hive.Blog was on the top but, now it has fallen behind these two, by a significant margin. InLeo/Leofinance with its threads app has made some waves and spiked on few days surpassing all the apps. It is still volatile but seems to be stabilized on the third spot. HiveBlog is now behind the Leothreads app and comes as fourth.
After these four apps, the others are quite down with a few hundred comments and posts daily.
Combined from all frontends there are around 25k posts and comments daily on the Hive blockchain.
Top Hive Frontends in the Last Month
Here is the chart for the overall number of posts from the top Hive frontends in October 2023.
The number of posts is market with white, while comments are with semitransparent color.
Ecency is now the app with the most activity combined (posts and comments) mainly because of its short form content that is driving more comments. In terms of posts only Peakd is leading the way. Lethreads is now on the solid third spot.
The waivo and beem app are next, but these are mostly automated bot comments.
If we exclude them, Hive.Blog is on the fourth place, and then are Actifit etc.
Top Hive Frontends by Monthly Users
The above was in terms of activity. What about the number of users, or MAUs. Here is the chart.
Peakd is leading when it comes to number of users. There is 4.7k MAUs for Peakd in March 2024. Ecency is in the second spot with 3.8k, followed by hiveblog and then Leothreads.
All the best
@dalz
The possibility of being able to interact on Hive through so many options is another added value that Hive has.
I like to switch between Peakd, Ecency and Inleo based on the activities I need to do.
As always your posts are full of useful data and analysis

Interesting numbers. It's good that we have several apps competing for users. I tend to use peakd on the PC and Ecency on my phone. I see there are efforts to get chat working across them. We have great infrastructure really. Of course the user numbers are tiny next to the big platforms, but it's a base to build on.
Yea I'm prety much the same as you how I use them... overall its realy a refreshing thing to have options for your content. When it comes to users a few millions more wouldnt hurt :)
Eccency for its tokenomics, the peakd for it's tools and usability, I think we can agree that inleo brings the social aspect to the table. Liketu is really doing massively in the Spanish speaking communities. Hive.blog's internal is where I get to do conversion and all that, so it still a good one.
Well said
Thats what I'm doing as well, just a little different is using ecency because its mobile app :)
That's a fantastic find. I was used to peakd and find ecency to be very comfortable. I guess the tokenomics catched me after all.
Biggest issue for me in peakd is that there is no time stamp in the post footer. In ecency I simply don't need to scroll up again for guessing if I read a fresh post.
A plus with peakd is that in community posts ecency lacks one hashtag. Since I postpone our Guild Brawl statistics I have not used peakd for a while. Because my draft preset has 10 hashtags and I don't wanted to miss one of them so far.

Quite insightful.
I mostly engage in Leothreads, I think the potential for inLeo is huge, considering its microblogging niche and robust L2 economy.
What do you think..............when will Hive Blockchain reach 0.1 million posts/comments on any given day?
You should add @travelfeed front-end for the next updates! Would be cool to see some more awareness of it and some public stats.
Trafelfeed is no 15:
I see! Thanks. Curious as to how those numbers change over the upcoming months. Slowly working on a few ideas for it.
These are MAUs
Each has its benefits. I use Peakd primarily as it has the better post editor and wallets. Ecency is best for mobile and Hive.blog market is where I convert HBD and Hive. Interesting seeing the comparable stats for Peakd and Ecency.
Wow!! those are some insane numbers, I love how each Dapp strive to make user experience smooth.
Thanks for the stats Dalz.
It's good to have variety and I see that almost all of them remain quite stable, although we lack growth. I am pleasantly surprised by LIKETU for its growth in a segment that is interesting.

Thank you for such a thorough explanation and information which btw is no where else, for the layman anyway
Cheers!
Good Data!! ❤️
This is interesting. I mostly use Hive.blog and Inleo.
I love the way you break down these analysis and I particularly love that Hive has a lot of front ends and one can easily choose what works for them.
I personally love using ecency because of its very simple and easy to understand Nature.
imho hive.blog is the most tedious to use, i prefer peakd
I am surprised by the results. I thought Leo would be higher. I personally use Peakd because that's what I started with and other interfaces feel off to me. I'm curious how the users were calculated. If an account uses Peakd for desktop, uses Ecency for Mobile, and Leo for threads, would the account count as 1 additional entry for each?
So far so good, people interact with peakd much more than eccency and this is evident. Who knows though, ecceny can pick the first in rhe future but right now, it might be difficult to dethrone Peakd from that post but let's see what will happen or what do you really think about it?
I mainly use PeakD and Ecency but sometimes use the internal market through HIVE.Blog
Interesting to see the comparison; I do wonder how much overlap there is... like many who have commented, I use multiple venues during any given month.
If we really do get another major bull run, it'll be interesting to see whether activity and usage spikes again, as many who "lost interest" in the bear market suddenly come back to capitalize on rising token prices.
Very interesting to read, I use Ecency, 3Speak and InLeo
Great data analysis! Thank you!
Good thing people are using these apps more and I have been using Ecency for quite a long time it is very easy to use and has many special features which makes people like it A lot of it is fun and rewarding to use.
I use @ecency and it’s cool
