How are you Cervantes community, lately I have been absent from the Hive blog communities due to my studies (I am studying Electrical Engineering and I am training to become a First Responder) and I am about to finish my commitments this semester. For those who don't know I belong to an ONHG **for the moment as a simple volunteer until I manage to become a "EMS worker " with effort this ONHG is an international movement that carries as a logo a Cross.... (I can't say name directly because of something called protection of the emblem and code of conduct but I am stopping me from telling this story by covering all their logos).
Last month (February) we carried out operations from February 25 to 28, the objective was to collaborate together with members of "Civil Protection " and take care of the citizens who were in the area of the various points to which we were assigned, while another group stayed in the Sectional to provide support to what they needed.
During the first days of the Carnival Operation, which were the 25th and 26th, we stayed at the station to provide on-site support while a group of us were assigned to various locations, among them: Urbaneja and Sotillo municipality. We were divided in groups to clean the place, make an inventory of things, be prepared to support the other groups that were in the municipalities and in the street near the station, giving first aid talks and quantifying blood pressure, pulse and oxygen in the blood with a pulse oximeter.
On February 27th it was my turn to go to the Sotillo Municipality to provide support on site, I was given a first aid kit that had everything necessary to provide pre-hospital care from medicines, bandages, needles to blood pressure monitors and pulse oximeters, my partner and I were located in the protection tent and we made a talk about the biosecurity rules and boarding rules, we quantified the blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation of a man who felt bad and we sat down to talk with the members of Civil Protection and their experiences in the field, honestly the day was a little boring because we wanted action. .
We walked around the area and just continued quantifying T/A, beats per minute and blood oxygenation and we gave a talk about this equipment to some members of Civil Protection, there was a moment where we were talking and it was 4:20 pm, 40 minutes to finish the watch, when suddenly my partner and I realized that suddenly the PC van stopped outside with someone inside...
We had been transferred to the tent a man of the 3rd age with an abrasive wound in the frontal area of the skull, then I opened the briefcase to my partner and put the materials on the table while I went and talked to the man.... While talking to him he told me that he was 71 years old and was walking down the street and fell (obviously not in this way because he was drunk), I continued to maintain communication with the patient to distract him from the pain while my partner cleaned his wounds, I wrote down his data and made a report on everything that happened with the patient, when he finished cleaning his wounds he was transferred to the place where he was staying.
At 4:50pm and we were about to leave, one of the park rangers went to the hospital, we quantified vital signs and apparently everything was fine, however she was still feeling bad, the patient presented headache, nausea, dizziness, headaches, she commented that she had a straight cervical and there we concluded that she had problems with the cervical, while she was lying on the stretcher we notified the situation to transfer her to the nearest hospital...
I admit I was nervous at first because I was a team leader but I knew how to handle the different situations that arose, finally I arrived home, wrote my report, took a well deserved rest, lay down and thought about my day and came to the conclusion that I love being part of this movement and I hope to finally have the honor of calling myself that: Socorrista.
