Desde hace meses le he estado haciendo seguimiento a un árbol en dos sitios distintos, uno de los sitios no es cercano a mi casa y el otro sí. El seguimiento lo hice porque cuando es época de lluvias el árbol es muy frondoso y en época de sequía prácticamente pierde todas sus hojas (caducifolio) y la diferencia es muy notable.
For months I have been monitoring a tree in two different places, one of the places is not near to my house and the other one is. I did the monitoring because when it is the rainy season the tree is very leafy and in the dry season it practically loses all its leaves (deciduous) and the difference is very noticeable.
El árbol es de la familia Meliaceae, género Cedrela y posiblemente es la especie Cedrela odorata, conocido comúnmente como "cedro". Este árbol puede alcanzar una altura de 35 metros o más. Las siguientes fotografías son del árbol que se encuentra más distante de mi casa; en época de lluvias y época de sequía.
The tree is of the Meliaceae family, genus Cedrela and is possibly the species Cedrela odorata, commonly known as "cedar". This tree can reach a height of 35 meters or more. The following photographs are of the tree that is farthest from my house; in the rainy season and in the dry season.
A partir de aquí, las fotografías son del árbol que se encuentra cercano a mi casa. La frondosidad del árbol debido a sus hojas en la época de lluvias se puede apreciar en las siguientes tres fotografías que capturé desde abajo.
From here on, the photographs are of the tree near my house. The lushness of the tree due to its leaves in the rainy season can be seen in the following three photographs that I captured from below.
Debido a la altura, fue complicado capturar una fotografía de las flores, no obstante, se puede apreciar en la siguiente, casi en el centro, una inflorescencia que es ramificada y tiene numerosas flores pequeñas de color blanco verdoso.
Due to the height, it was difficult to capture a photograph of the flowers, however, you can appreciate in the following one, almost in the center, an inflorescence that is branched and has numerous small greenish-white flowers.
Las hojas del "cedro" son muy largas, de hasta 80 centímetros, con 5-14 pares de foliolos; los foliolos son de ovados a lanceolados, de agudos a redondeados en la base y agudos o acuminados en la punta. En las hojas y madera de las ramas de "cedro" se encuentran fenoles (equivalentes de ácido gálico) y flavonoides (equivalentes de catequina) y su cantidad varía de acuerdo a la localidad donde se encuentre y también por la edad; los árboles con mayor edad contienen mayores cantidades. Las concentraciones de fenoles y flavonoides indican que puede ser posible su aplicación biomédica.
The leaves of "cedar" are very long, up to 80 centimeters long, with 5-14 pairs of leaflets; leaflets ovate to lanceolate, acute to rounded at base, and acute or acuminate at tip. Phenols (gallic acid equivalents) and flavonoids (catechin equivalents) are found in the leaves and wood of "cedar" branches and their quantity varies according to the locality where they are found and also by age; older trees contain higher amounts. The concentrations of phenols and flavonoids indicate that their biomedical application may be possible.

En mayor detalle su tallo cuyo diámetro puede superar los dos metros. La corteza es de color marrón claro o gris, y está dividida en placas por fisuras verticales. La corteza contiene limonoides como la nomilina y el obacunol, angolensatos y mexicanólidos, que son compuestos orgánicos producidos por estas plantas que les permite inhibir el ataque de insectos y animales de pastoreo (efecto antialimentario). La corteza interna del tallo se caracteriza por los componentes químicos triterpenoides, de los tipos pentaol, odoratona, odoratol, iso-doratol y los limonoides gedunina y desoxicedrelona.
In more detail its steem whose diameter can exceed two meters. The bark is light brown or gray, and divided into plates by vertical fissures. Resultados que justificaron el uso en etnomedicina (medicina tradicional) de esta planta para el tratamiento de la diabetes.
On the other hand, the hydroethanolic extract of the inner bark of the "cedar" stem, tested in rats and albino mice, has been shown to be effective in reducing postprandial hyperglycemia and the damage caused by oxidative stress resulting from high glucose levels. These results justified the use of this plant in ethnomedicine (traditional medicine) for the treatment of diabetes.
Los frutos del "cedro" son capsulas leñosas que se desarrollan cerca de las puntas de las ramas, y en época de sequía lo que más se distingue son esas cápsulas cuando en la madurez su pericarpio se abre y separa (dehiscencia) en cinco divisiones para liberar sus semillas.
The fruits of the "cedar" are woody capsules that develop near the tips of the branches, and in the dry season what is most distinguishable are these capsules when at maturity its pericarp opens and splits (dehiscence) into five divisions to release their seeds.

Y ahora los frutos con sus semillas. Las semillas de "cedro" contienen los limonoides mexicanólidos andirobín, 6-deoxi swietenólido y 6-hidroxi mexicanólido.
And now the fruits with their seeds. "Cedar" seeds contain the limonoids mexicanolides andirobin, 6-deoxy swietenolide and 6-hydroxy mexicanolide.
Como se puede apreciar en las fotografías las semillas poseen alas, por lo que son diásporas (semilla + ala) que son dispersadas por el viento (anemocoria) y su movimiento es de autogiro.
As can be seen in the photographs, the seeds have wings, so they are winged diaspores (seed + wing) that are dispersed by the wind and their movement is autogyro.
Las diásporas son de color marrón castaño, de 2,0 a 2,5 centímetros de largo y 0,6 centímetros de ancho incluyendo el ala. Estas diásporas son pequeñas en comparación con las diásporas del árbol caoba (Swietenia macrophylla), que una ocasión fotografié y que también se dispersan con el viento con movimiento de autogiro, y miden de 7,0 a 12,0 centímetros de largo y de 2,0 a 2,5 centímetros de ancho incluyendo el ala.
The diaspores are chestnut brown, 2.0 to 2.5 centimeters long and 0.6 centimeters wide including the wing. These diaspores are small compared to the diaspores of the big-leaf mahogany tree (Swietenia macrophylla), which I once photographed and are also dispersed in the wind with autogyro movement, and measure 7.0 to 12.0 centimeters long and 2.0 to 2.5 centimeters wide including the wing.
Por la altura del "cedro", la cantidad de frutos abiertos dispersando diásporas y tomando en cuenta que el árbol se encuentra cercano a mi casa, subí al techo de mi casa asumiendo que encontraría diásporas, y efectivamente encontré varias.
Because of the height of the "cedar", the amount of open fruits dispersing diaspores and taking into account that the tree is near my house, I went up to the roof of my house assuming that I would find diaspores, and indeed I found several.

To give an idea of the distance traveled by the wind-blown diaspores, I show the following photographs which in sequence go from the diaspores on the roof of my house to the only "cedar" tree near my house, and which I assume from there they dispersed.
