Since you are here, it is safe to assume you recently had a decent amount of encounters of this red menance.
(Trigger warning)
Now, if you are a newer player like me, you probaly hadn't encountered this red monkey named Yodin before, or an encounter was very rare.
However due to recent changes to the in-game reward system, people(and bots) have started renting and using much better cards in all leagues, Yodin being one of the most common cause of pain towards the location of my body where the sun dosen't shine.
And if you were suprised like me, and would constanlty rage of how OP he is, and have a 0% win-rate against him, then congrats, becuse I am here to help you. Becuse I hate Yodin, and the lazy twats who use him for easy wins.
Know your enemy, who tf is yodin? A brief introduction
Yodin Zaku was a War Demon of the times before the Splinteri... bla bla, let's not kid ourselves, no one cares about the lore, so I am not gonna bore you with that. What you need to know is the abilities he gives to the monsters: +1 health, +1 ranged damage, and gives all monsters a free bazooka, ok maybe not the last one, but not far off, he gives all monsters blast, so pretty much the same I guess. Seeing that you are here, it is safe to assume that I don't have to explain to you what blast is.
The blast ability is the biggest pain in your posterior. The monsters gets the blast ability no matter their damage type, so melle units also get blast, and the Fire teams have some of the hardest hitters on the melle and ranged department.
(In-game fottage of Yodin wacthing your monsters blowing up)
Ok now for the reason why you are here, how tf to you whipe that smug smile of this monkey? Luckily there are severeal options, which I will go through now.
1. Water
What is the best way to get rid of fire? To pour water on it of course(Unless it is an oil fire), and splinterlands mimics real life in this scenario. Water has the best counters for Jodin, like the chad known as Lir Deepswimmer.
He is a legendary water summoner which gives your monsters armor, return fire ability and blind to enemy units.
Armor protects aginst both melle and ranged attacks.
Return fire ability lets you monster damage an enemy unit when they are attacked by ranged monsters.
And last but not least, Lir gives the enemy team blind, which greatly increases chances of melle and ranged units of missing the attacks, and guess what? You won't take blast damage when the enemy misses. If you don't think Lir is enough...
I present you Naga windmaster, he might not be pretty, but he is usefull. Why? because he has the headwind ability, which reduces ranged damage of enemy units, and I'm sure you know from experience that Yodin team's tend to be filled with ranged monsters. Also Naga windmaster has the headwind ability already at level 1, which is a plus.
If you use both of these cards against Yodin, victory is practiaclly guranteed. But what if you are too cool to use Legendary summoner, or you just don't like water? Well don't worry, next I will just go over general tactics that can be used with others classes.
2. Speed
One common weakness that fire monsters tend to have, is that they often have low speed. In case you didn't know, the bigger the speed advantage, the bigger the chance to miss. So instead of having a tanky unit in the front, have a unit with a lof of speed, it's a bonus if they have the dodge or flying ability, which will increase their chances of dodging enemy attacks.
Pretty much all clases have a monster or two that has high speed, flying or a speed debuff. So don't come complaining that this isn't an option with your current class.
And no, I am not going to list all of them, do a little research yourself you lazy goblin.
Also if your unit in front dodges, then the monster behind them will also not take damage.
The only problem with the speed route, is that it is RNG dependet, the higher your speed, the less RNG you need to win. The speed option is still pretty solid in my opionion, just know that it won't gurantee a victory.
3.Suit up and get the backline
Another option is simply to stack up enough armor to survive the initial assault from Yodin's team. However don't try to outlast your enemie's frontline, Fire has many tough units with blocks, if Yodin's ranged monsters stay alive for more than 2-3 turns, you will lose. So use monsters with assasin and opportunity to take out the ranged units.
This has gone long enough so finishing tips and tricks
- Put an unit with block behind your frontline
- Check your enemies previous team composition and prepare accordingly
- The new reflection shield ability is pretty usefull
- fk Yodin
- Git gud
