Weapons Training is useful and versatile in most rule sets given battle it allows non-attacking units to gain offensive capabilities by giving attack power (Range, Magic, or Melee) with a unit with the Weapons Training ability in battles where maximizing damage output is important, as it transforms support or utility units into effective attackers. The ability also enhances team synergy, enabling a well-rounded lineup that combines offensive and defensive strategies. In rule sets where combinations are well synergy with the ability, Weapons Training can turn the tide of battle by taking advantage of every unit’s potential to contribute to the overall attack.
Most Non-Attack non-attacking units focus solely on support roles, such as healing, shielding, or applying buffs, but with Weapons Training, they gain offensive capabilities with their support abilities. This dual functionality makes them exceptionally versatile, contributing to sustaining the team and dealing with damage. When strategically combined with a powerful Weapons Training unit, these formerly passive cards can unleash unexpected levels of damage, catching opponents off guard and shifting the momentum of the battle. Sometimes this Weapons Traning ability strat are usually use in low mana cap.
Let me share an interesting battle from the New Year’s Eve Rebellion Tournament, hosted by SPL and created by sps.tournaments on January 1, 2025 start battle. I participated in this exciting event and managed to secure a spot in the top 34 leaderboard, earning two Rebellion packs as prizes!

I chose Sthispa as my summoner for its Phase ability, which grants all units a 25% chance to evade magic attacks, providing strong defense against magic attackers. My lineup was tailored for the Little League, High-Five, and Earthquake rule sets. I positioned Solace Asinach as my tank due to its powerful counter abilities, Return Fire and Magic Reflect. Wailing Wraith served as secondary melee damage and debuff support, while Riftwing acted as a third tank and non-attack debuff unit. Moxian Rebel provided magic support with its Weapons Training ability, empowering the non-attack units, Riftwing and Runeseer Sevaya, by granting them magic attack stats equivalent to its own. Finally, Runeseer Sevaya added non-attack support to my lineup.
On the opposing side, the summoner Thaddius Brood led a lineup of Death Ranger, Dark Arborist, Night Stalker, Ravenhood Warden, and Avarisdeus. Their strategy seemed well-composed, focusing on abilities that enhance melee and ranged attacks. The opponent’s key damage sources were likely Night Stalker, with 4 melee damage, Blast, and Sneak, along with Thaddius Brood, who could attack twice randomly with its Flying ability, surviving the Earthquake rule set.
Overall, I believe I had the upper hand with multiple buffs and debuffs in my lineup, effectively countering the opponent’s attacks. While the power difference might seem significant, my debuffing strategy gave me a strong advantage.
As the battle progressed, I was able to win this battle thanks to Riftwing the last surviving because of damage dealt from opponent attacks and Earthquake. Though my Runeseer Sevaya and Moxian Rebel were easily executed from Night Stalker it was enough to execute my Riftwing with a high chance of evading most of the attacks. Moxian Rebel with Weapons Training not only increased my overall damage output but also turned these support units into active contributors, allowing me to maintain consistent pressure on the opponent while benefiting from their debuffing and defensive abilities.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants of the tournament! It was an exciting event where players had the chance to experience some of the most powerful and valuable cards in the Modern format.
