Part 7...If I were a new player, would I be able to play this game? Dust to Diamond!

in Splinterlands3 years ago

Ok so I'm sitting around just thinking. A noob player, playing the game doesn't have the assets what could he do to improve his cards in the game. Now I know there's the obvious, blog on splintertalk, use Mistplay to get rewards, etc... There's a myriad ways to do this but what can a noob do in game to increase his assets? Tournaments are out of the question until I can get enough cards to stack a deck. Daily quest rewards and end of season rewards aside there's really only one other option that I know of: the market.

The How

I had about 18 credits after eos, so I pondered what can I buy for $.02 or less and flip for a profit. Remember that when you sell a card the market takes 5% in fees. So if you buy a card for 10 dec lets say for easy math's sake the market doesn't charge a fee butif you sell that asset for say 20 dec the market takes 1 dec for fees. so your net profit is 20 dec sell price minus 10 dec purchase price minus 1 dec for market fees is = 9 dec.
Now market flipping isn't easy. but it is methodical. And once you learn the market and its habits it gets nominally easier, but there are nuances. Every MMORPG I've ever played the first thing I'd do after I get the character up a few levels, is study the market. What do people want? What are they willing to give for it? How can I aquire it? and where and when can I sell it? sounds like the real world doesn't it? Imagine that? Art imitating life.
Anyway. for 2 cents my choices are very limited. Chaos Legion Reward cards. Yeah those 2 cent or less cards. So I started watching the price action. and I noticed that the prices were going for .015 cents and then would sell for .019 or .020 cents. I tried to buy several times before I was successful and I was able to buy a pelacore deceiver for .017 cents. That was in credits because remember a noob player doesn't get dec until bronze II. So for 18 credits I had a card. I put that same card up for sale for .019 cents and it sold within a few minutes. (by the way I should mention that bots were very active so getting a card was very difficult). So My profit in DEC was Sale Price 12.090 - Purchase Price 10.818 = 1.272 DEC - Fees .6045 DEC for a Net Profit of .6675 DEC. My first Profit! that's approximately 52%! Ok these are small beans, but repeating that process, with some patience and I'm now up to 17 DEC that's now worth $.03. Screen Shot 20220430 at 10.11.31 AM.png Starting with the Deceiver purchase at the bottom of the screenie and moving up these are buys and sells. The downside is that even though I tried to purchase cards at these prices, it took multiple tries to successfully purchase the card and this does use your resource credits whether your successful or not. Not fair and it stinks, but it is what it is.

The Why

I will continue this process until I have enough to but some reasonable amount of cards and make better profits with higher priced cards.
Why bother? Because at some point my rewards are going to be tied to my use (or lack of use) of the ghost (starter) cards. By the time that these are implemented, I should have a fair amount of cards. I hope.

Join me on my journey from Dust to Diamond! Until Next time, I'll cya when I cya.
