Another year with Splinterlands is about to pass by, we welcome 2025 but we will miss 2024.
This year has really showed what Splinterlands is capable of in terms of providing players with new and exciting stuff.
About Splinterlands
I'm sure most of you already know about Splinterlands, I have personally played the game for over 6 years now having started in 2018 May according to the in-game "Battling since" indicator, but I will still give a quick description of what Splinterlands offers to those who might be new around here.
Splinterlands is mainly a fast based card battle game, where you will need to choose your Summoners to summon Monsters on the battlefield for you to beat your opponent. There are six different splinters (Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death & Dragon) to choose Summoners and Monsters from and then there are seven stats (Melee, Magic, Ranged, Health, Speed, Armor & Mana cost) on the cards to choose from with lots of different abilities on top of all of that. Your goal is to best your opponent by having your monsters be the last ones standing after the battle. From battling other summoners you can earn rewards in the form of SPS and GLINT. SPS is the governance token of the game and is tradeable/sellable/buyable on various markets, staking SPS gives players access to earning more rewards from playing, voting for proposals and yield from the staking pool. GLINT is a soulbound token which can be spent in the "GLINT Store" to strengthen your deck with reward edition cards or other stuff that will help you benefit and grow your account.
Land gameplay currently consists of putting your monsters or summoners to work on your land plots in order to earn from 3 different buildings (Grain, Research & SPS).
Splinterlands has been around for a while and as I mentioned previously, I myself have already been playing this masterpiece for over 6 years already.
After such a long development time for the game and with a big and supportive community, there are seemingly endless ways to enjoy this game. There are Tournaments, Guild battles, Ranked leaderboards, Lands, Packs, Jackpot chests & more.
According to data provided by SPLINTERCARDS website:
SPS Marketcap is currently at 13 million dollars
Cards Marketcap is currently at 35 million dollars
What 2024 gave to Splinterlands
Now let's get into how 2024 was for Splinterlands. I will start off by saying that I really enjoyed the whole year of 2024 as a member of the Splinterlands community, there was a lot going on and I probably missed some things here and there, in this post I will just be focusing on things that I remember and felt important and memorable to me.
The community had love and had hate in 2024, but to me that's how a healthy community acts. We fight, we bicker, but in the end we make up and strive towards future goals.
Conflicts
At the very start of 2024, when the Rebellion pack sale had just gone live, we got a new system for airdropping core set cards called CONFLICTS.
With new core sets released to Splinterlands, there have been card airdrops for the past few years. Splinterlands company usually doesn't release all the cards in the pack at first go, but leaves 10 or so cards out of the packs to be airdropped between players who buy packs earlier. They introduce cards back into the packs after certain milestones are reached and drop the cards to whoever had bought any packs before the milestones got reached.
But with CONFLICTS they changed the system up to a point of no recognition. Here's how it works.
There are 5 points you will need to understand to understand how the conflicts work
This is based on how the Rebellion edition conflicts worked
For Rebellion there were 9 conflicts in total, with each conflict running for exactly 1 month.
Wagons are required to participate in the conflicts. Wagons cost 50 vouchers each and allow to hold up to 5 cards and 100 packs for each wagon. (To my understanding there is no limit to how many wagons one can buy and the wagons will be usable for the following conflicts also).
For filling your wagons, you earn points every hour depending on the value you place in your wagons, for rebellion there was a threshold for 100,000 points to earn chances at an airdrop card. At the end of a conflict the amount of available airdrop cards will be divided with the number of chances that people collected throughout a set time period, this will give people a % of which everyone has of getting a card.
Each card will have a 2% chance of being Gold foil, but there will be an option to spend vouchers to boost your chances to 4% for Gold foil.
Only the current edition packs and cards can be used to participate in the conflicts.
When putting your cards on lockdown into Conflicts, they will still be able to assist you on the battlefield.
Conflicts are like a proof of ownership for New set assets. Every asset from the new set collection holds value which you can use towards competing in the conflicts. Yes "Competing" as when with the previous airdrop systems we were all working for our own odds to get airdrops, but now with conflicts we will be fighting each other for chances to get the airdrop cards.
6 Year anniversary!
In 2024 Splinterlands had it's 6 year anniversary in May. It's actually pretty amazing to see how active a Crypto Game can be after over half a decade of age.
Since I can't remember if we got an update or a celebration with the anniversary from Splinterlands, I will use this segment to state some of my own accomplishments I have managed to achieve at the end of 2024.
Accomplishments
I feel like I've accomplished quite a bit in Splinterlands over the past 6 years, but what I think I'm the most proud of, is that I have been able to stick around the game and keep feeling myself like at home in this amazing community without getting into major fights or feeling left out.
It truly is a heartwarming and kind place to be compared to the rest of the internet and crypto space.
Some of my achievements:
- 37,000 battles played
- I've got over 63,000 SPS
- I'm a comfortable Diamond league player
- I can brad about pulling all 3 of the super rare legendaries from Mystery potions
- I'm on the of the earliest players to join this game (May 2018)
- I'm part of a guild called Team Possible (Currently playing in Team Possible Hackers guild)
- I got over 7000 Champion points
- I have at least some cards from EVERY possible edition in my collection
Some of my goals for 2025:
There are quite a few things I would want to accomplish in 2025, but these are some that come to mind right away.
- 100,000 SPS Staked
- I would love to have 100% completion of the current Reward cards.
- Refer at least 10 players to the game
- Get a 1st place in a tournament
Glint Store
This year we got a complete overhaul to our rewards structure, and in the center of it all is the GLINT STORE.
A new section was be added to the shop within the Splinterlands website where players could spend their Glint tokens to purchase all manner of rewards. The shop will continually get added new items over time to provide players with new and interesting options on which to spend their glint.
The Glint store currently conists of the following rewards
Regular & Gold foil rarity draws
This option is to get soulbound reward cards from the current reward card poolLoot Chests
This option is to get a little excitement through having a random chance of getting anything available in the Glint storeResources
This option is for getting Energy, Merits or PotionsExclusives
This option is currently for getting Reward tier titles
There are ongoing plans of adding glamour items to the store very soon!
Rebellion packs sold out
The pack sale of Rebellion edition started at the end of 2023, ended right at the end of 2024.
The Rebellion sale started with a 500,000 pack presale and followed up with a 9,500,000 packs for general sale, totalling to 10,000,000 packs.
Rebellion came with a bunch of new mechanics and updates that got the community super excited. With the edition we got a Pre-battle phase with multiple choice summoners and also a lot of new cards (29 commons, 28 rares, 14 epics and 23 legendaries).
But with Rebellion they also introduced a new system that makes pack sales a ticking timebomb. After the conflicts/airdrops ended the sales slowed down a lot due to the falling market conditions. Due to that a new idea got released where 25,000 packs at a minimum would have to be gone off of the shop every single day. It worked so that they would start burning off the excess supply for every day that the sales were under 25,000 packs. This lead to massive Rebellion pack burn off and so from the 10,000,000 total packs at the start we came to end up with only under 2,000,000 packs left in circulation (Yes over 8,000,000 packs of Rebellion were burned). And of the roughly 2,000,000 packs that are out in the world of Rebellion, over 800,000 is held by the DAO.
But Rebellion was awesome and even though many people didn't buy into the set for as much as we expected, the changes this edition brought to the game were very big and impactful!
With 2024 ending in a few days, we are left waiting for the next big edition CONCLAVE ARCANA to be added to the game. I hope it will be as impactful, and a bit more, than Rebellion was!
I wish you all a great end of 2024 and thanks for reading my post 😌
