Battle report: Back to basics

in Splinterlands16 days ago

Sometimes, it's okay to test your battle skills without the luxury of abilities, and the ruleset for this battle made that possible. For this battle, the ruleset was "back to basics". This meant that all units lose their abilities in battle. The mana cap for this battle was 22, which is very little, so I had to choose my units wisely.

I knew that with the condition of this battle, I had to select a good summoner. I went for Possibilus the wise as summoner.

This summoner adds +2 to my units, which I need most in this battle since abilities are not involved.
I also tried to choose monsters with low mana costs, but I made sure to include at least one powerful monster to deal devastating blows to the enemy monsters.

In the first position, I went for Deeplurker.

This monster has a low mana cost of 6 and in my opinion, is fit for the tank position. It has a health of 7, so it can hold its own in battle. More importantly, it has a good melee attack power of 3, which is crucial for me winning the battle.

In the second position, I put Hardy Stonefish.

Merely looking at its stats, one might think this monster won't do much in battle, but by the time it gets its health buffed by the summoner, it becomes a force to reckon with. Another interesting thing is that despite the fact that all units lost their abilities, my summoner was still able to give my unit the reach ability and the trample ability. Hence, Hardy Stonefish was able to launch attacks even from the second position thanks to the reach ability.

I put Torrent Fiend in the third position.

This monster was to add up the numbers because it cost 0 mana. However, it still has melee attack, and with the reach ability brought about by the summoner, it was able to attack from this position. In addition, it's health was also buffed up by 2.

Nerissa Tridawn occupied the fourth position.

This monster was my main weapon in this battle. First, she is a magic attack monster with a good attack power of 3. I strategically put her in the last position so that she can be causing damage from afar, and by the time she gets to the first position which is characterized by heavy fire, the enemy units must have been heavily depleted so she can finish them off.
She has incredible health of 10 in addition to the extra 2 brought about by my summoner.

The victory was a narrow one. My opponent used Kelya Frendul as summoner. The enemy units were 5 in number namely Diemon Shark, Hardy Stonefish, Kulu Swimhunter, Xenith Archer, Angelic Madarin. They fiercely attacked my tank and it was eliminated. They also eliminated my second monster Hardy Stonefish. At a point, it was 2 against 5. I was able to eliminate 1 enemy monster. Eventually, only Nerissa Tridawn stood against 3 enemy units. Thankfully, she was able to eliminate them all and win me the battle. Nerissa Tridawn's superior power won me the battle.
