How Much Money I've Made Playing Splinterlands

Intro

I got a call from a former co-worker a few weeks ago exclaiming, “Dude! You have GOT to get IN on this!” My friend proceeded to tell me about purchasing Splinterlands land for $20 that went up to $400 (at that time), about playing a farming NFT game that was making him thousands of dollars a week, and a few other crypto ventures. Needless to say, I was all in after a quick 5-minute conversation that turned into an hour-long speculation of making money off video games.

We’ve been training our entire lives for this moment!

Making a career out of playing video games has been a dream of mine since I was a child sitting in front of an N-64 racing as Yoshi on Rainbow Road.

During the aforementioned conversation with my friend, he mentioned that it felt like “We’ve been training our entire lives for this!” Since childhood we have min-maxed video games to get the most out of the in-game rewards systems. It was great earning in-game rewards and completing achievements, but that is nothing in comparison to cold hard cash!

Now, with games like Splinterlands, this min-maxing can actually make us money! And a lot of it!

How Much Money I’ve Made

I paid $10 for a Splinterlands spellbook. That’s it. All the DEC I’ve earned I’ve reinvested into cards, which I now lock in game for safekeeping. If you want to protect your cards, check out my earlier post on locking your cards here:

I do view these cards as an investment, because cards have limited mints, and over the life of the Splinterlands, the price of cards has steadily increased. When I first started playing, I pulled two Axemasters from rewards chests and I thought, “Hey, this is a great card!” But when I looked on the marketplace, I second guessed myself because they were so cheap! Now, a level 1 Axemaster is $16! I should have bought them while they were cents on the dollar.

I enjoy the fact that I get to play video games AND invest in game rewards (DEC) at the same time. This is the fulfillment of my childhood dream! Now all I need is for Pokemon to come to life so I can become a Pokemon Trainer. Cue Pokemon theme song! I WANT TO BE THE VERY BEST!

So how much money have I made playing Splinterlands? I am not sure! Let me make a spreadsheet.

** 30 minutes later **

I have been playing for two months now and spent $10 on a spellbook. The current market value of my cards is $414.38. Subtract the cost of a spellbook and I am sitting at $404.38, or $202.19 a month playing a game I love.

Conclusion

I don’t plan on selling my cards anytime soon. As for me and my family, we HODL! I will be playing Splinterlands long into the future, and I plan for the cards I own to continue appreciating as time goes on. You can do the same thing by playing Splinterlands play to earn card game!

Grind on my friends! Grind on!

Glad to hear it's working out for you.

You know that back in the day cards were so cheap you wouldn't believe it - Chickes were $0.04.

Rusty Androids were so cheap I literally sent 100 of them to a friend of mine as a laugh, he burned them, to further the lols.

I remmeber back in August trying to explain to someone how mental it was that i had digital game assets worth $10 000, know they're worth more than 10 times that.

Mental.

And land hasn't even started yet, that's going to be the real money spinner.

I think the game that can keep thinking about the future and take care of the communities best will become MONSTER enterprises in the future but also like Gary Vee says I also believe in the same regards a lot of projects will also go to 0 in the future. I wish you the best on your journey and hope you get to live out these dreams.
