Fight review #4! Trying to deal with Yodin Zaku

Another day another fight! Today I have a more interesting fight to showcase with a more unorthodox method of trying to deal with it, lets check it out!

Team Lineup

The Battle

Sometimes there are teams and opponents that from a glance you'll know that it's gonna be an uphill battle and sometimes even impossible to beat with limited resources. In situations like these I usually take one of two approaches, I either limit test, where I try different builds and try to find a working formula and work from there, or I try to involve some RNG. It's an uphill battle, so some good luck might bring it down to a more reachable level.

My opponent's history showed that he prefers full ranged lineups so I felt I didnt need to play around stuff like Serpentine Spy or Kobold Miner, however, as you can see, I built a team trying to make use of some good luck. My lineup was a bit risky, but necessary. Putting Battering Ram and Pirate Archer in these spots meant that they would both die when the snipe bait, Kelp Initiate, gets hit, and since Battering Ram would have 2 speed, same as Fire Beetle and Mantoid, it was a gamble whether it was gonna get to hit or not, however it was important to direct some of the early damage away from Sea Monster and Water Elemental to some extent, hence also why I had Furious Chicken in the first spot. I lost that gamble and they both died after the first hit leaving me like this.

The Fight

Not a very good position to be but still winnable. Mantoid missed a hit on Kelp Initiate which kept my other 2 units healthy and meant I'm still in it.

I kill his Cerberus and his Fire Beetle misses on Kelp Initiate which means my Water Elemental will get to survive another round which is crucial leading us to this.

Now I'm firmly ahead, my Sea Monster heals 3 HP per turn and his units can do up to 5 damage per turn. His Mantoid misses on Water Elemental again, which doesnt end up mattering because Sea Monster just cleans up everything and I end up winning the battle.

Conclusion

You might be asking yourself how viable is it really and is RNG really a strat? As a general rule of thumb I try to avoid relying on RNG because you don't just need to be lucky, you need to be lucky at the right time, which can be a bit tricky, and if you think about it, I didn't really get SUPER lucky or anything, my units had 45 - 55% miss chance which meant I still got lucky but not like a 10% lucky, but there are situations where it's unavoidable. If you're probably gonna lose anyway, why not test your luck? It might surprise you and it's a better option then just surrendering or trying the same team again for the 100th time and hoping for a different result.

Final Thoughts

As always, the point of this isn't to give you a team to copy, but to give you an idea, a different approach from the one you might be taking. Yodin Zaku is a very scary and strong card, and as a player who doesn't own any cards, I'm stuck with having to rent, and while renting cards like Llama, Yodin and Kron the Undying definitely make life easier on the ladder, it's very costly and feels like it adds nothing to my skill, and for me it's always fun to push myself and my skill, because winning fights like these, even if I had some little RNG help, feels a lot better than winning the 100th fight with Llama + Undying.

As always, these are just my thoughts and my way of approaching the game. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments or tell us about your own approach, at the end of the day it's a community and we all learn from each other!

That's it for today's post, hope you're all having a wonderful Thursday and as excited as I am about the new reward cards that are coming in 4 days! Until the next time, have an amazing day and happy grinding!
