Splinterlands Social Media Challenge, Opening 40 Foundation Packs!

First off I hope you all are enjoying your Christmas holiday weekend, I know I have so far. It's always a fun time of the year to spend time with family and friends, something I really don't do often enough these days!

Today I decided to do a post on Splinterlands as it was the game that introduced me to the Hive ecosystem more than four years ago now. I haven't been all that active in game play over the last several months, mainly only playing brawls with the guild THGaming Brawlers, which I've been a member of for years. But this week I decided to finally take a closer look at Foundations. Although it's been around for some time, I had done very little beyond the tutorial.

I started to play with the starter cards and found them just too limiting, so I purchased a few cards. One of the bigger purchases was upgrading the archons (summoners) up to level 2. I also checked out the price of packs and was pleasantly surprised that they are only running a little above ten cents! I purchased a few packs and opened them up and discovered it was much easier to play with more cards.

Since it's the holiday weekend I decided to do something exciting and open 40 Foundations packs just to see what kind of cards I could pull!

First off I swapped for some DEC and purchased the packs.

I then proceeded to the portal to open them up. Rather than do them one at a time I used the open multiple packs function that I have circled in blue. I also used legendary and gold potions on all of the packs as well, which I have accumulated over years of gameplay.

And now for the fun part, here are the pulls from the massive forty pack opening party!

On the first page I got some great pulls. I got three Barthalamas archon cards, two legendary Agniavan Salamander, one legendary Giam Root, and two gold cards in a Dire Bear and a Port Guardian. Not too bad as I'm just get warmed up!

Not quite as exciting here, but I did pull two epic Wild Horse Tamers and a Colossus Raider in gold foil. Also another epic card Sorrow Harvester, overall pretty good again.

And here we had a gold foil party as I pulled four different golds: Hungry Ulund, Frank Arsgard, Scales of Justice and Spitting Camel! Plus an epic Asel Alagosdil!

Not quite as exciting here except for the epic Saltwater Mage which is a really powerful magic card which I have already.

Here I pulled two archon cards Marlai Singariel, the water splinter summoner which increases magic atttack. She reminds me of good old Alric Stormbringer! Plus two epics: Kicking Roc and Glimmermancer.

And last but not least I pulled three Aurelia cards which is the life archon. Also a gold foil Wilhelmdale Deputy and an epic card Lunaki Howler which is a great neutral magic attack card.

Out of all these packs I opened I was able to level up several cards. There are other I could level up but decided against it as my archons (summoners) are still too weak (all level 2) to use the higher power levels or I have a gold card that is already at the level I could achieve by leveling up. Among those leveled up:

Time Bandit a rare life card to level 2
Vicious Quilliun a rare life card to level 2
Twice Yester Knight a common life card to level 3
Codex Sage a common life card to level 3
Black Widow a common death card to level 3
Savage Butcher a rare death card to level 2
Kanaaq Miner a common neutral card to level 3

My biggest limiting factor is the level of my archons (summoners.) They are all at level 2 and I now desperately need to upgrade them to level 3! So before I open any more packs I may have to purchase some more cards to level them up to be more competitive!

And what would a Splinderlands post be without at least one great battle? This is one I played earlier today. My favorite splinter is definitely water since the archon increases the magic attack. Magic cards have always been among my favorites as they cut through armor. This battle had the rulesets of lost legendary cards and all units have camouflage, therefore can't be attacked except in the first position. The mana cap is 39.

To be honest, I got worried when I saw I was up against a level 4 summoner. We both went with Marlai Singariel but mine was only a level 2. The rest of my team I decided to use New Beluroc Aegis as a tank, followed by Asel Alagosdil, Lunaki Howler, Water-Logged Wizard and Saltwater Mage to increase my magic attacks.

My opponent gave me a break bringing all level one cards in against me, which was a relief after seeing the level 4 archon! They also brought in Asel Alagosdil as a tank, followed by Port Guardian, Lunaki Howler, Vengeful Monk and rounding out with Saltwater Mage.

My opponent's Asel Alagosdil didn't last too long and was the first card eliminated.

By round two my opponent's team was already thinning out pretty quickly.

In round three my opponent had two cards left against my three, it isn't looking too good!

And in round five my team finished off the Saltwater Mage and claims the victory!

This victory also happened to elevate me to Silver I, not too bad for only having played a few days now! I am really enjoying Foundations so far. It's kind of nice having fewer cards to choose from and does make things a little more simple. The competition is pretty stiff though, so you have to strategize wisely. It's also important to level up your reward cards as your earn them, the higher the level of your cards the easier it is to compete!

If you haven't given Foundations a try it really is worth it in my opinion. I was skeptical at first as you don't earn any SPS, only cards. However, none are soul-bound which is a huge plus! It's given me a new reason to play Splinterlands once again!
