Scattershot is best played with Blast which is what you did with that win battle. That extra speed is making your monsters tough to hit, as well as going first. I underrated Speed for the longest time, but it gives you a double advantage.
Yeah, it is hard to defend against in some battles - the scattershot limits the effectiveness of Shieldbearer a lot too - which is good, since I don't own one! :D
