A Battle from a Distance

in Splinterlands2 years ago

Hello everyone, welcome to another post about Splinterlands. In this post I will talk about the strategy I usually use when the Going the Distance rule is active on the battlefield.

What is the Going the Distance rule?

Going the Distance is a battle rule in Splinterlands, it hasn't been long since it appeared in the game and its function is to prohibit the use of melee cards and spells on the battlefield, this means that when a battle has the Going the Distance rule Distance, players will only be able to use ranged cards.

In this type of battle, 3 things come to mind that in my opinion I consider important to increase the chances of victory.

1 - A Close Range ability

This ability will allow the ranged card to be able to attack in the first position, as in the battle only ranged cards will be allowed in the battle so this ability will be very useful for you to have ranged cards in the front line that are able to attack.

2 - Shield

Shield is one of the card stats in Splinterlands, its function is to block ranged and melee attacks until it is broken. As this battle will be against ranged cards, then I consider it important to have a shield on my cards so that I have more defenses in battle.

3 - A Return Fire ability

The Return Fire ability will deal part of the ranged damage taken back to the attacking card, this means that if you have a card with the Return Fire ability and your opponent attacks this card with ranged attack then part of the damage dealt by this card will be caused by it.

These 3 things will be of great help when your opponent uses ranged cards in battle and when the Going the Distance rule is active they will be even more important for you to achieve victory.

To explain in more detail I will demonstrate in practice through a battle.

BATTLE

In this battle the Going the Distance rule is active on the battlefield and as I mentioned before me and my opponent will be able to use only ranged cards, in addition to the Going the Distance rule there is also the Born Again rule, in this rule my cards will be resurrected after are defeated and will return to the battlefield with 1 health.

Watch the Battle

I have 26 mana available so to build my strategy I used 6 cards, 5 monsters and 1 summoner.

  • As a summoner I selected Ilthain, it will grant the Return Fire ability to all my cards so it will be of great help in this battle.

  • In the first position I selected Gargoya Devil, he is a ranged card with the Close Range ability and he also has a shield, he also has the Flying ability that increases his chances of dodging attacks, he will be my initial defense and also my main defense in this battle.

  • In second position I selected Xenith Archer, this card has no ability but it will be useful defending in case Gargoya Devil is defeated, it will also be useful attacking my opponent's cards while in second position.

  • In the third position I selected Silvershield Archers, this card also doesn't have anything very special, its attack is low it has the Snipe ability that will be very useful attacking my opponent's backline.

  • In the fourth position I selected Venari Crystalsmith, its attack is low but it has the Tank Heal ability which will be very useful healing my card positioned in the first position.

  • In the fifth and last position I selected Pelacor Arbalest, it will be my main source of damage in this battle.

My opponent also chose great cards like Runic Skyclaw which has the Flying ability and Venari Crystalsmith with the Tank Heal ability, his other 2 cards have the Snipe ability so it won't be a very easy opponent to beat but Runic Skyclaw is in first position and is unable to attack as it lacks the Close Range ability and this puts my opponent at a disadvantage.

The battle started and even though Runic Skyclaw is not able to attack it is still a problem since it manages to dodge many of my attacks but I also have Gargoya Devil who has the Flying ability so my opponent will not be able to defeat him easily either .

The Return Fire ability is also being of great help, every time my opponent lands an attack he takes damage from the ability and that is a big advantage in this battle.

In total there were 6 rounds for me to achieve victory, despite having a good advantage the battle was not easy and having used this strategy with the summoner Ilthain was essential for me to achieve victory.

Whenever there is the Going the Distance rule and the life deck is available I use this strategy because I know my chances of winning are very high, I hope you liked it too.
