Introduction
This season I have decided to do another Modern Format experiment. It seems competition in Wild has heated up to the point where it would actually be a good idea to play in Modern again. This post is going to go over my progress in Modern League so far this season and I will follow up with another post right after the season is over to see where I am.

Silver Leaderboard in Modern League
I have settled on the Modern Silver leaderboard to try to get 150,000 Glint for the first place. So far I am in the first place, but competition is really stiff between the first three places. As you can see from the image above the second and third places are tied and are only one or two wins away from catching up to me.
Will I be able to to stay in the first place with less than three days remaining in the Splinterlands season? Time will tell, but I have a pretty good feeling that I will be in the first or second place this season on the Modern Silver League Leaderboard. There is of course a possibility that someone will pop up in the last moment kind of the way Pladozero did. Until just a day or two ago I was basically competing with Bunanags with everyone else far behind and then all of a sudden Pladozero popped up into the second place.

So I am looking to get 150K Glint, but may end up with 100K Glint or less. Considering that and considering that my ranking is likely to be quite high for the next Leaderboard run I should skip a season and go down, or stay up and choose between Gold and Diamond Leaderboards.
When I look at the Gold leaderboard it looks quite similar to the Silver leaderboard in that the real competition is for the first three places. And that is the competition for 250K, 200K or 150K. Based on my current ranking it seems totally feasible that I would be able to take a place in the top three so it would be at least as good as taking the first place on the Silver leaderboard in terms of the Glint tokens earned.
Choosing Next Season Leaderboard
There is one problem with going for the Gold Leaderboard next season. It means that I would not be able to play in Modern next season because I would have to drop back down to Gold as:
The leaderboard you are competing in is determined by your highest league in the previous season.
My highest league is already Diamond, so next season I would be on the Diamond Leaderboard and unless I play one battle and drop into Gold league the season that follows the next season it means that I would have to back to playing Wild League exclusively next season. I don't want to do that so it means I will be playing in the Modern League Diamond Leaderboard next season.

The Diamond leaderboard is a lot more competitive though, so there is no certainty that I will be able to move up into the top ten spots even:

The upside is that Diamond leaderboard prizes are a lot more generous, I should be able to make it into the top 25 in Diamond with no problem and the Glint prizes even at the twenty fifth position are 150,000 Glint:

Conclusion
Modern leaderboards can be a great source of additional glint rewards, but playing has to be carefully planned so that the leaderboards provide maximum Glint rewards. I think starting in Gold or Silver league and going for Gold or Silver leaderboards and then following up with Diamond leaderboard is the optimal solution.

I am also a Hive Witness and would really appreciate your vote for me as a witness: https://vote.hive.uno/@seattlea

Wow that's a solid win rate! In the last days there is a lot of activity on the leader board so hopefully you can keep your spot!
Don't have a lot of experience with it, so it is going to be interesting...
I participated in a tournament for the first time in a while. I think it cost something like 200 DEC to play and I came in 26th. I think I won 56 SPS or so. Pretty lame I know.
Modern is probably less difficult than tournaments...
Nicely done. I saw your image and went "oh crap how have I not voted for their witness yet"....
Turns out I am not a idiot :)
:) Thank you.
