Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Nidhoggr.png

Nidhoggr is by far the Archon that costs the most mana at 10 mana cost and was the final Rebellion airdrop card, which, given how imposing the card looks, you will think of it as a really powerful card, but for more than a year, it fell behind the other Rebellion Archons, not because of its huge mana cost, but due to the Force Reduction debilitation that it has which reduces the minimum team size by 1. Because of this, a proposal was even made to rework the card, which has resulted in a heated debate between those that invested into the card, then ultimately failed to received enough votes to pass the proposal.

Fast forward to present time and the team had finally decided to rework the card, and because of this adjustments, I can say that the card is finally delivering what an Airdrop archon should be and was really love using it right now.

Nidhoggr was the final Archon Airdrop from the Rebellion set, which I believed is based from the Norse Mythology and was given the right to design the card to the people at YGG who had bought the most packs during the presale, so they expected it to be a really powerful card, deserving its name, but it turns out to be a card that you can only use on niche ruleset.

After the rework on Nidhoggr, the Force Reduction debilitation was finally removed from the card. It's mana cost is still the same, but I think that removing the debilitation alone has significantly improved the card, making it a more flexible and meta relevant card, particularly on high mana battles. Before this change, I haven't really used Nidhoggr, but now, not only that I see more Nidhoggr lineup in matches, but also uses it frequently myself. In fact, out of my last 100 wins, 10 of them were won using Nidhoggr and you can look on each battle yourself.

10% win rate was huge because before this my win rate using Nidhoggr was zero, since I never really used it. But that was not all, because I looked at the summoner stats at Iron Legion and not only the number of battles it has this season has almost doubled compared to last season and we still have about 5 more days before the season ends. Aside from that, it's win rate has significantly increased compared with last season, and to my surprise, it even dominates all the archons in terms of its win rate.

This may be due to the increased number of high mana cap battles that greatly favor this Archon due to its high mana cost and without the Forced Reduction, it was now capable of anchoring top-tier lineups. Now, Nidhoggr has become more of a strategic choice and not just an Archon you use during niche battles.

Closing

From the gameplay perspective, this change does not just Nidhoggr, but it also enriches the strategic aspect of the game, giving more potential lineup options and unexpected synergies that could turn the tide of battle. I also believe that this change was necessary specially with the upcoming Conclave Arcana Archons. I am also glad that the players who have heavily invested with this card can now be finally say that they were involved in creating an amazing card.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
