Modern RARE Monsters You Need! - Part 5

in Splinterlands3 years ago

In this post I want to spend a short time talking about the DEATH deck and Modern must own monsters, specifically RARE.

I was only rating the cards based on a Level 1 but I will also do a secondary rating for MAX Level, Also I wont touch on cards which are Starter cards.

This will form part of a 5 part mini series where I delve into what I believe is the best RARE Modern monsters to own, looking at both Utility, Synergy and Cost.

Venari Bonesmith

One of my favourite Death cards is The Venari Bonesmith, I love the Life Leach ability and with Thaddius Brood leaching 1 HP from the opposition this really makes this card a real winner!
Also being Magic it hits to the core of the oppositions HP instead of being mitigated by any armour.
At Level 1 it gets 1x Magic, 2x Speed and 3x HP with Life Leach, So the HP and the speed could be better and this is really where this card is let down unfortunately. MAX Level gets 2x Magic, 4x Speed and 5x HP with Life Leach, Dispel and Poison, So most defiantly a massive improvement, That being said though for me the sweet spot is one level less at Level 7 you still get all the stats you just loose Dispel which for me is neither here nor there but would also save you another 30 copies.

image.png

Synergy isn’t the best but its also not the worst, whilst it doesn’t get a boost from the Summoner as mentioned Thaddius removed 1 HP from all opponents so Bonesmiths mix of Magic and Life Leach comes in clutch when paired with this Summoner. Though it would be nice for a boosted Magic, but this would be to OP for Death I believe.

image.png

Currently the cost is at $0.10 per BCX / 51 DEC - MAX Copy $11.5 / 6K DEC, So in costing terms its one of the cheapest rare cards you can currently buy, This obviously has some impact on the decision to choose this card over another! For this price it does entice you into simply splashing out for a MAX Copy however id advise falling one short and get a Level 7 for the Cost, Utility and Synergy and invest the rest into one of the others possibly on this list.

image.png

Its not hard to love this card it offers great Utility and Cost advantages, it also synergises well with the Summoner, granted not directly but indirectly. Its also low mana and offers OP stats at the higher level. For me Its one to buy! I know its still part of the reward pool but at 32% Printed its not going to be around forever.

Grim Reaper

image.png

image.png

Grim Reaper is not a card I have ever used but it looks like a very good rare death monster, At Level 1 it gets 3x Ranged, 2x Speed and 3x HP with Infliction, So a very nice offensive attacker which will cause the opposition to not be able to heal. That being said its relatively a slow card with again low HP so it will need some protection. MAX Level gets 4x Ranged, 4x Speed and 6x HP with Infliction, Oppress and Piercing, Some nice abilities at MAX level but really its the increased attack and HP which makes MAX Level more appealing. Oppress is take it or leave it but Piercing is nice, Just like Magic, attack at the route of the HP instead of being mitigated by any armour buff.

image.png

Synergy, Again its not getting a boost from either of the current Summoners, Well not directly but again indirectly by facing opposition with 1 less HP its giving this card greater chance of causing that killer blow and with the attacking prowess this card offers its more than do able.

image.png

Currently the cost is at $1.18 per BCX / 592 DEC - MAX Copy $135.7 / 68K DEC, So in costing terms its one of the more expensive rare cards you can currently buy, This though is no surprise as its been around awhile now so its been hit by the inflation and also its more rare than some of the others on this list.
That being said 1 BCX of this card is still a great investment, yes it would be nice to get the increased stats but for the money 1 BCX is the way to go in my opinion.

image.png

image.png

Its a nice card but its not one id be advising to MAX out, like I said, 1 BCX on this would be just fine to improve your death deck. Its got Good Utility, Average Synergy and Cost wise its on the pricey side.

Cursed Windeku

image.png

image.png

Windeku has to be one of the most over used Death tanks you see nowadays, Both by players and especially buy bots. Its a very strong card and at Level 1 it gets 2x Melee, 3x Speed and 9x HP with Thorns, So a very nice card even at level 1. Bring that over to MAX Level and it gets 4x Melee, 3x Speed and 11x HP with Thorns, Heal and Slow. Its just an all round amazing card, it gives great offensive with just as good if not better defence. What ever level you have this card at you will be very happy. For me the Slow is neither here nor there I could take it or leave it, however I wouldn’t be without Thorns or Heal.

image.png

Like all the others on this list Synergy isn’t going to be the best but again it does benefit from the reduced HP. Its likely to kill off the opposition either with its Melee or the Thorns. So Synergy wise as per all the others on this list is not really a factor which neither benefits nor takes away from the overall greatness of this card.

image.png

Currently the cost is at $0.84 per BCX / 417 DEC - MAX Copy $96 / 48K DEC, So in costing terms its defiantly a card you could MAX out relativity easy. However in terms of the sweet spot for me its Level 7 so you would need 85 copies $71 per BCX / 35K DEC save the difference.

image.png

image.png

Its a very powerful card it offers great Utility its not impacted by the lack of Synergy and Costing its affordable so for that it makes an amazing addition to anyone’s death team.

Death have a number of great Rare cards to choose from, out of the 3 mentioned today if I could only pick the one to have it would be Venari Bonesmith I love the Cost of this card, your getting great value for your money. Synergy is again indirectly quite good actually when you tie in the fact this card deals out Magic and finally Utility at all levels its a winner, Life Leach, Poison and Dispel is really strong. Buy now and hold as this card will go to the moon!

Nice overview! MY favourite of the 3 is Cursed Windeku, but the poison on Bonesmith is just so sweet.
