Every time we play NFT games, usually, a new player will focus on 3 things: money, money, and more money :D. But yes, I know some players play only because they like the game, usually they already have a good job outside, so they play the game only for fun.
Usual question from new player Is the game still profitable? how much profit a day/week? how much capital? How many hours do you need to play a day? etc.
For new NFT games, it might be easy to get information about this, but for NFT games that have been around for years, we usually find it difficult to get information about this. Why? Maybe because fewer people are discussing the game, they are more interested in discussing new NFT games.
The guide is more intended for new players/beginners with limited funds/resources, because I am also not a player who uses strong cards that are expensive, so I will try to explain to the extent of the abilities/resources that I have.
So is Splinterlands still profitable? As a player who has played this game for 4 years and fought thousands of times until this blog was written (right now my main account is only for Brawl, I play ranked in my Scholar account bltzr-wizard-710), I can say that this game is still profitable, in Conclusion section at the end of my post I will give estimated income earned every season.
Because this guide is for beginners, I will also discuss some basic things in this game and divide it into several parts to provide an idea of how to get money in this game:
- Basic knowledge/terms about the economy in Spinterlands :
- SPS (Splintershards) is a Governance Token. Governance tokens are a type of cryptocurrency that allows holders to participate in the decision-making process of a blockchain project. These tokens also serve as prizes and incentives. players can get it from Ranked battles, Staking, win Tournaments, etc.
- DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) is the main currency of this game which we can get by buying on the Hive Engine, staking, winning tournaments, etc. We can use DEC to buy cards, pay tournament registration fees, SPS rent, etc.
- Splinterlands Market we buy and sell cards to complete/upgrade the cards we have or to gain profits from card trading.
- Loot Chest, players can get it every time they rank up, for example, Bronze 1 to Bronze 2, Silver 3 to Gold 1, etc. Apart from that, we can buy it at theGlint Shop. Loot Chest, can contain Energy, Merit, Potion, Reward Card, and Jackpot (I don't know about this because I've never gotten it).
- How to win the battle:
To win the battle we need cards and upgrade the level. To know which card we need, there is no other way than trying to play, watching/reading the guide on Youtube / Splinterlands Blog or going to the Splinterlands Discord which contains lots of tips and we can also ask there which cards need to be upgraded from our collection.
At the beginning of playing, focus on the cards that are available and that we often use while learning several other additional cards. Don't rush to buy lots of cards at once. As we fight more we will be able to know which important cards we need to have. we can also see the cards that are widely used by our enemies.
Apart from buying, we can borrow other people's Splinterlands cards in the game and also at Peakmonsters.
Borrowing a card requires less capital than just buying it, but we need to pay the rent every day. The advantage of renting a card is that we can borrow cards according to our wishes without having to spend a lot of money. If we want to learn quickly, we can borrow it first, and if we like the card we can buy it.
Tips for renting cards: make sure our energy reaches 49/50 then we rent it for 2 days, and immediately use up all the available energy by doing ranked battle, that way we can borrow the card for 2 days and play for almost 4 days (base from the amount of energy we use).
After day 2/when our rent card expired, we waited for the energy to return to 50 and repeated the process above.
- After our win rate is good enough, understand every ruleset/ability, and know which cards are needed by upgrading/rent them, it's time to understand more deeply about how to get money in this game:
These are some of the ways that I know (some may have been discussed above):- We already know that in Ranked battles by winning the battle we can get SPS tokens as a prize.
- Enter the tournament at Tournaments to register we usually need a certain amount of DEC, some tournaments are free. This tournament has SPS/DEC, Card/Pack, or other prizes.
- Join Guild and take part in the battle between guilds (Brawl) we can get SPS prizes and also Merits to buy Gladiator cards in guild Store building.
Apart from this, many guild leaders give us extra income if we win, it can be in the form of SPS/DEC/SPS Delegation/cards, etc. For example, my guild will give a prize of 2000 DEC for every Brawl (you can see the announcement in the upper right of my picture)with the condition of winning 3 battles. - If you have a lot of SPS, you can stake it at here or in pools to get passive income.
- Buying and selling cards on the Marketplace. buying low-priced cards and then reselling them at a higher price to make a profit.
- Make a Splinterlands post, if your blog is good enough you can get upvote in your post and got extra income, every week Splinterlands has a different theme this is an example for this week:
- Social Media Challenge
- Community Engagement Challenge
- Art Contest if you are good at Drawing
Conclusion
To get a good income you need to understand every ruleset and ability. Have a good card and memorize a good formation so you can win.
After your win rate increases another door to get more income will open, for example, you can register as a scholar (the owner my kick you if you have bad win rate 😀), join high tier Brawl to get more rewards, etc. The advantage of Splinterlands is you can use multiple accounts to double your income, the limit is your time.
From my experience last year using the rent tips above (rent 2 days and using it for 4 days energy), for 1 account you can get between 1500-2500 SPS per season if you rent a card and SPS, but you need to reach at least Diamond League and have good win rate like 50% or more.
