Splinterlands Update - Catching up on what's happening in the game

in Splinterlandslast month

Hello there.

It's been three weeks since my last post. I have been playing the game daily, but it's mostly been going through the motions. I haven't really been reading much on what's happening in the game, and even in Hive in general. I think I might have gotten burned out, and wanted to take a break. I have a bit of motivation to write, so I'd like to take advantage of this and talk about what I missed / what's happening in Splinterlands.

Rebellion is sold out. This was expected but it might be early by a few days. I believe it was supposed to end by the end of the month. The Rebellion set had a burn mechanic setup, where 25k packs are burned every day. If 1k packs were sold in a day, 24k are burned. If 26k packs are sold, then no packs are burned that day. So because of the big purchases early for the airdrop, the packs ended up running out early.

Checking the data from Splintercards, it's crazy to see that only 10 percent are circulating/opened, 9 percent are in the DAO, and 81 percent were burned. There are a lot of things to think about with this set. Did the team print too much, was it overpriced, were the cards weak? I hope the team learned a lot from this in preparation for the next set.

I was luckily in the SPL discord on the last day, and it was nice to see players buying up the remaining cards instead of letting it get burned. The Chaos Legion set will be leaving Modern once the new set arrives, so it will be interesting to see how impactful players sleeping on Rebellion was.

The second GF Heliose has been sold, and we have our first under 1M DEC RF Heliose. The second GF selling for 7.56M DEC is a big drop from the 14M of the first. Of course, mint 1 can have a bigger premium to it. Checking the bid history, it was pretty interesting to see that Vugtis tried to snipe it at the last second, but housewifeftw increased their bid at the last second as well.

The first sub 1M RF Heloise was just sold. In my post a while back, I already expected prices go lower especially in the latter half/quarter of the event. As more and more of the whales get their own copy, there will be less competition to push the price up.

Looking at the latest card for auction, it is interesting to see Azircon pushing the price up again. It's either he gets it for less than 1M DEC, or we go back to 1M RF Heloise again.

Next, we have the new and final Hall of Legend cards. Warborn Shaman has a lot of abilities for a rare card, but it does cost 10 mana. That makes it in range of Giant Killer. Its speed and damage are mediocre, but the armor and HP are ok for its abilities. The high armor works well with Void Armor, but the 8 HP is a shame for the Heal. It does work well with Lorkus though. The Impede can be a bit niche for a magic monster, but it can help the team. The ambush with poison can pretty much guarantee a poison.

Fizbo the Fabulous, is an interesting card. It gives Fire a modern healer. It does have a low amount of HP and armor, but it is enough for a support. It does have good damage, and the Shroud of Reflection Shield giving Reflection shield to adjacent monsters makes it very versatile. The Affliction is nice to have when facing Earth teams, but can be pretty useless against the Fire matchup.

Finally, we have the new exclusive promo card which can be bought with vouchers. It costs 1500 vouchers, but it has a lot of abilities to offer. The Untrainable is interesting to not make it overpowered. Slow and Weaken are good whole team debuffs that are useful. Poison Burst is really nice in poisoning the enemy team, partnered with Rebirth, then it is possible to poison the whole enemy team. But the combination of abilities is a bit of a head scratcher for me. You have 2 really good debuffs so you want to keep Ulfga alive, but the untrainable, poison burst and rebirth makes it want to die early. Looking at it another way, I think there is upside whether it lives or dies. But its biggest weakness is Immunity.

That is it for my catch up post. I'm actually surprised at how many things happened in 3 weeks. There was a Townhall recently but I haven't seen/heard much from it and I'm awaiting the summary. People seem to be excited after it, and that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to what the game has in store next year.
