Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Need for Speed

in Splinterlands8 days ago

Hello everyone! This is my first entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Diamond Ranked.

I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked. This game has the Need for Speed rule set. This is a rule set that makes players use only units with 3 or more speed. As with all restrictive rule sets, it's not one of my favorites, however, this one isn't as bad as some of the others. It can be annoying when paired with other restrictive rule sets but the most interesting interaction is with Reverse Speed. It creates a game where some cards players wouldn't consider for Reverse Speed become pretty good.

This game has the following rule sets: Silenced Summoners, Need for Speed, and Earthquake. We both picked Quix the Devious because Dragon is usually a good choice for Silenced Summoners. I put Djinn Oshannus in front, followed by Tide Biter. I had Halfling Refugee next, hoping it isn't exhausted too often and manages to survive with the Heal. I finished the team with the Weapons Training combination of Noa the Just, Rage, and Kra'ar Xoc. They also started with Djinn Oshannus and Tide Biter. However, the rest of their team is different. They placed Swamp Spitter next, followed by Night Reaper. They finished with Merdhampir and Naga Assassin.

They had more speed, so they quickly took out my Oshannus. However, I was able to deal enough damage so that theirs also died to Earthquake. In round 2, they eliminated Tide Biter and Halfling. I also took out their Tide Biter. Meanwhile, Rage was already down to 6 HP because it was taking the attacks from Night Reaper and it had only Leeched 1 HP, so far. In round 3, I killed the Swamp Spitter. My Rage stayed are 6 HP because it Leeched back the damage it took. The Earthquake damage was very important here. It killed their Naga Assassin, removing the speed advantage, and it also killed my Noa, which gave the Martyr buff to Rage. So, in round 4, Rage was faster than Night Reaper and killed it, leaving them is just a ranged unit and nothing else to do. The game ended during the Earthquake damage.

Their higher speed gave them an initial advantage but Rage is a very powerful card and it was able to take over the game. Night Reaper was very scary though. I don't think a higher level would have made the difference. Maybe if they had it at max level and placed it in the last position because it gets Last Stand. I'm not sure if that would change the outcome, though.
