My thoughts on the auction card Heloise the Hollow

in Splinterlands3 days ago

Hello everyone! Today I'm gonna talk about the auction card Heloise the Hollow. The card itself is very powerful. I haven't tested her but it's difficult to counter. Having multiple self resurrects is unique and the ability to strike back when she's killed with 100% chances (even if she's paralyzed) is what makes her self resurrects so effective. There are some possible counters to her but players will figure out how effective they are when it starts showing up more.

Now I'll talk about the auction process. Today's auction is already going for 1.35M DEC, which is more than what was paid for her on the other days so far:

It's still early but looking at several bids at over 1M, it's safe to assume that most days if not all will close at 1M or above. The whales are gonna keep pressing for these prices and most of them will likely want more than 1 copy. I can see some copies dipping below 1M but probably not below 900k in the 70s and 80s. In the 90s fomo will probably kick in again and remove any chance of lower prices. Will this is make sure we lock up more than 100M DEC on the DAO, I don't know if we wouldn't reach similar values if this card was done in the same way as the Hall of Legends promo cards. Looking at the 2 Hall of Legends that have been completed, both generated more than 100M DEC. I know those include 2 promos instead of one but this card would have much more interest than the other ones. We still have to see how much the GFs are gonna go for. Over 2M+ is guaranteed, in my opinion, and it's probably gonna be much more than that, since there will only be 5 available. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the GFs sold for over 5M. There are more than 5 whales who want them.

Personally, I haven't bought any of the Hall of Legends cards yet and I won't be taking part in the auction. It's outside of my budget and I don't think it's wise for me to spend that much in a single card, when I don't have many of the Rebellion cards. This one is good enough that I would be willing to get the max copy of it was in the Hall of Legends. 550k DEC, probably less if buying from the market since I wouldn't want the GF, is an amount I could pay. For gameplay reasons, I fear that this card is too powerful to have only a few players have access to it. The team does have a track record of making counters to the most powerful cards, so it shouldn't get too out of hand. Grimbardun Smith used to be a bigger threat than it is today.

On the other hand, the way this works for the GFs, means it's likely to pull more money than the Hall of Legends style sale. It's also a card that only works at max level. Not that anyone who owns it would ever not have a maxed summoner, but in gold or below tournaments, it's possible to use her below max. She was made with the max level in mind, and just not having the self resurrect, makes her incomplete. In that aspect, it doesn't make sense to sell her at 1 BCX.

The only other thing is that it takes focus and DEC away from the Hall of Legends cards. While people are spending and talking on Heloise, they are not doing that on the Hall of Legends. Since this lasts 100 days, it would either have to be done after all of them were done or interrupt them for those 100 days. Since the new set in coming up in April, it would push these promos into the new set, which wouldn't be great either.

All in all, I understand why it's done like this and it's having the desired effect, but personally, it's out of my reach and it might also make the gameplay gap between whales and non whales too big.
