One of the most important strategic decision when playing Splinterlands is to choose the correct set of summoners. Your target should be to level up summoners so that you can also level up your cards and use their full potential.
There are many different types of summoners but there are many differences among them:
The mana of the Summoner
The higher the Mana of a summoner the less often you will be able to play it. When the mana cap of a game is low, you won't be able to play 5 or 7 mana summoners.
The edition of the Summoner
There are Alpha, Beta, Promo, Reward and Untamed Summoners. For each edition the number of cards is different to level up a summoner. When you compare the number of cards necessary to be able to play a legendary card with level 3, you see that there a lot of differences.
The costs
In my eyes the most important factor is however the cost of the cards. The level of your summoner will define at what level your splinter will be. The higher up, the more powerful cards you will be able to play. The costs of the summoner is therefore very important and you need to compare the costs that are necessary to play cards of a same level. The differences can be huge.
My advice
The best ratio of mana and cost lies with epic summoners of the beta edition. You need only 11 cards to play a level 3 legendary card and the prices for these summoners are comparatively quite low.
