Utillity of Practice Mode - Beginners Guide

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

Beginners face 3 problems :

  • Dark Energy Crystal Acquisition
  • Power Acquisition
  • Rating Points Acquisition

Easiest of these to overcome is Rating Points Acquisition. Personally I believe people should not invest until they figure out a strategy to reach 400 rating points and finish one of the 2 requirements to be able to earn Dark Energy Crystal.

Why is this important?

Reaching 400 rating points is not hard once you understand the basics and learn to use them in your favour. Should you decide to invest money before you learn how to play the game, then you will have a very poor sense of which cards can go up in value, which cards are useful and which cards to avoid.

Of course 400 rating points doesn't mean you will master the game, but it does mean you will understand concepts such as :

  • Positioning - Which cards go where on the slot 1-6
  • Back line harassing - Harassing something that your opponent doesn't want in a direct fight
  • Melee vs Ranged vs Magic - How to use which one, their strengths and weaknesses
  • Summoners utillity - Which Summoner is most optimal against your enemy and for you team composition
  • Turn order - Depends on agillity (mostly), and how that can influence the outcome of the battle

To reach 400 rating points in the most beneficial way, use Practice Mode so you do not lose ECR and Rating. You might lose a lot in the beginning, but understand there are no consequences or rewards for losing or winning in Practice Mode. Should you start off with Ranked there will be a lot more negative consequences than rewards.

It will take you 30 minutes to figure out the forementioned concepts and things such as:

  • Summoner compatibility - Which summoner do you feel good playing?
  • Battle tempo - How the battle happens and which things to look out for?
  • Basics of reading your enemy - What your enemy might use, based on what he already used.
  • Do you like the game enough to invest in it - Can you see yourself playing this game?

Closing thoughts: Once you practiced enough to be comfortable enough to play ranked, then start playing ranked, and once you achieve 400 Rating Points you should look into investing more money into the game so you can advance further. However I strongly advise, ask for the best way to get power from the people in discord that have played this game in a while. You do not have to spend crazy amounts of money to start earning. Except for the 10 dollar Spellbook you might have to pay 0.2-0.3$ to start earning if you are well informed.
