So I'm new to splinterlands and I'm enjoying the battles so far. I had my first victory and I am excited to share it. This victory came courtesy of the Archon, Aurelia. This victory is important to me because it came after I learnt and took lessons after losing my first battle.
Time to let you in on my set up.
I figured that I should go with earth this time and see what it would be like, so I chose an earth archon. Aurelia was the likely choice for me. The benefit of going with Aurelia was that she gave all my units +1 health.

My choice of units was partly influenced by the mana cap. The mana cap was 31, so I had to carefully pick my units. I had to be very strategic and maximize my options.
I've come to learn how decisive the first position is in battle, so it is really important for me when choosing unit to occupy that position. I chose New Beluroc Aegis for my first position.

One obvious reason for this choice is because it's a melee unit. Naturally, melee units are better attacking from the first position, except they have abilities that let them attack from other positions.
This unit had 3 armors to protect its health, and that's more reason why I chose it. The combination of it's armour and health stats guarantees its longer stay in battle considering the fact that it will be under heavy attack.
Another reason this unit was picked for this position is because of it's taunt ability. With this ability, it draws all the enemy attacks to itself, giving chance for my other units to strike without being attacked much.
Vicious Quilliun is at the second position. It's opportunity ability is a reason I put it there. It goes after the vulnerable units (those with the lowest health). This was a strategic addition. Also, it costs little mana which is great for this battle considering the mana cap.
The next unit is Kicking Roc. It costs a lot of mana but I just had to add it to my team. One of my reasons for picking it is its ranged attack power which is 3. I like to put ranged units at the back of my team because that's where they flourish. While the battle happens in the front, my ranged units do the damage from the back.
Kicking Roc deals a bigger blow because it has a high attack power compared to other units in battle. Its health is also good enough to keep it in battle. This is important because it gets to withstand attacks if it occupies the first position, letting the next unit operate without pressure.
Grand Consul minion is the unit to occupy the last position. Costs just 4 mana, which is cheap enough for me to complete my team. This unit has just 1 health, which means it can be very easily eliminated from battle with just one strike. This is why I put it at the very last position. From that position, it can attack the enemy units without attention from them. Of course it's a ranged unit so attacking from a distance is ideal for it.
My opponent decided to go with the light Archon incessant sage. Their line up consisted of Twice Yester Knight, Sherringham Logger, Codex Sage, Hungry Ulund.
The battle started with quick attacks from my ranged units. At this point, all of my units already had an extra health added to them thanks to Aurelia.

New Beluroc Aegis which occupied the first position kept getting attacked, as I expected. This is largely due to the taunt ability. Vicious Quilliun kept on doing its thing of fishing out the enemy units with the least health and attacking it.
My opponent's unit in the first position, Twice Yester Knight was the first to be eliminated after a strike from my powerful ranged unit, Kicking Roc.
My opponent's archon added extra armor to all enemy units in the beginning and it made the battle interesting.
After taking so much hit, my New Beluroc Aegis got eliminated.
However, my remaining units were too strong for the enemy units as they responded by eliminating all enemy unit back to back in a coordinated attack.
