How I became Doctor Blight

────────────◈◉◈────────────
“From the starless void beneath and from before creation lives the dweller in the void. By Silus' will was it given form and through the tearing of the veil were the hands of chaos laid upon the world. Though the Crypteia are the heralds of Chaos, only I am the right hand of doom. By the well of power am I given strength. Through me the shadow of the void is cast and by the will of Uul the word of Silus is given voice. Hear me and tremble. Approach and embrace oblivion.”
by Doctor Blight, The Children of Doom
────────────◈◉◈────────────

My name is Alastair Lexington. I was once a promising young professor at Pelcroft University, known for my keen intellect and passion for obscure folklore. However, my obsession with the forgotten continent hinted in the ancient Yerivin Manuscript began to consume my mind.

As I delved deeper into my research, my colleagues started to question my sanity. The people around me dismissed my theories about the hidden lands and strange flora I theorized as nothing more than fanciful delusions, born from an unbalanced mind. The comparisons between me and the patients at Silverwood Asylum stung deeply. Thanks to that, it only fueled my determination to prove them wrong.

> "They don't know anything. I am just a doctor, here to study life, not death."

I became increasingly secluded and irritable as I spent countless hours scavenging for artifacts from around the world that might hold clues to the location of the lost continent. Obscure tablets in jade, strange figurines carved in hard wood from unknown origins, and fragments of rotting parchments with writing similar to the Yerivin Manuscript all became my prized possessions, some of these are even cursed and disdained by others.

But despite my tireless efforts, my critics remained stoic. It wasn't until the first sightings of a strange fish and alien currents in the seas of Azmare that they began to take notice. The sudden shift in oceanic activity brought a flood of funding and celebrity to my research but it also brought new challenges and questions.

As I set sail for the lost continent on my invented clockwork steam ship, I grew increasingly restless. My sleep schedule was in shambles to the point I only get a few minutes of sleep everyday. My mind started to get plagued by fear and greed, which only fueled my growing delusions about what lies ahead. When I finally arrived at the jungle ruins, something snapped within me.

> "No, I am not crazy? What? Who is there? Show yourself!"

I said to the strange monotone voice in my head, looked around me but no one was there.

I disappeared from camp upon arrival. I returned late that night wild-eyed and raving about visions of a flaming caldera where all questions would be answered. The crew and captain were terrified, hiding the guns and rum in fear of what I might do next.

> "Though the Crypteia are the heralds of Chaos, only I am the right hand of doom. By the well of power am I given strength. Through me the shadow of the void is cast and by the will of Uul the word of Silus is given voice."

It was a dawn before reports reached the shore of the jungle ruins blackened and dead, with tales of a crow-beaked shadow bringing death in its wake. The once-promising professor had vanished into madness, leaving behind only my legend as Doctor Blight - the madman who sought to uncover secrets that were better left buried.

> "When you see a shadow, crow-beaked on the face, hold your breath hard, wait for him to pass. His presense alone can make you weak and the wind beyond him, is nothing but toxic. Remember, my child of Azmare, never engage and never speak as a whiff of that dark wind can be used to kill and nothing can heal you do. You will only become a memory, soon to be forgotten, a number on the board of how you became a victim of the Doctor Blight."
